Title: WSOP 2019 - Brit Watch
Post by: AlbusFawkes on June 23, 2019, 05:12:21 PM
I have not posted here much but thought I would start a Brit appreciation thread. This is for any Vegas events not just WSOP.

Feel free to comment/correct or even blow raspberries!

Yesterday was a good day with two bracelets.

Stephen Chidwick took down the $25k PLO High Roller #45

Luke Schwartz claimed victory in the $10k 2-7 Triple Draw #49

Both players picking up their first WSOP bracelets.

Today we have Day 2 of the $10k PLO

The following bagged up after Day 1

Armin Ghojehvand 204,800
Toby Lewis           133,400
Richard Gryko       115,800
Christopher Flint    112,900
James Park           105,800
Peter Costa            72,000
Fraser MacIntyre     66,300
Mathew Perry          58,100
Stuart Rutter           57,200
Barny Boatman        38,000

I have left off one or two who are listed as Brits but seem to be just listed as UK resident.

Stuart Rutter cashed in his first event yesterday and jumped straight into this event and bagged again,
Barney Boatman is having a good series as far as cashes are going without making any FT's (yet).

There have already been earlier Brit successes starting with Ben Heath winning the $50k NLHE High Roller #5, winning $1.48m in the process.

In #10 Benny Glaser FT'd the $1500 DC finishing in 6th.

In #16 Richard Hasnip FT'd the $1500 NLHE 6 Max for $90k for a 5th place finish.

in #17 Brandon Sheils, Florian Duta, Jonathan Proudfoot & Yiannis Liperis all won their 1st table in the $1500 NLHE Shootout but were unable to make it to the final table.

in #23 Philip Long finished 4th in the $1500 Eight Game for just under $50k.

In #30, $1000 PLO, Sam Razavi came 3rd for $104k. Sam has 4 cashes so far this series.

Does Sam Trickett still go to these things these days, or has he made so much he can’t be arsed?

Sold his house in Mansfield and moved to Ibiza if you read his twitter page.  Probably realised James Bord is long gone and the glory days are over after marrying his page 3 barbie doll.  WP sir.

Does he still play poker or not? Or just decided to sit and live on what he made? Don’t blame him if he did, I’d probably do the same and be risk averse to keep a good lifestyle.....

I haven't seen him mentioned in any chipcounts/updates so far (& I have scrolled through most of them). Don't recall seeing any mention of him on the UK circuit either.

#51 $2500 Mixed Hi/Lo

After starting the unofficial final table with a decent chip lead, Philip Long eventually finished in 6th place for $31k.

This was Philip's second FT of the series.

He still rocks up in the big cash games that Party stream, and I assume he is coming to Vegas when the Party Millions is on.  Guess he has no desire to be over here for the whole series, and not sure he ever did.   He seems to have a pretty expensive lifestyle, so don't think he has gone all risk averse either.

#56 $1500 NLHE Super Turbo Bounty (one day event)

This has just finished & sadly Robert Bickley just missed out on a bracelet. He started HU with a 1:3 chip deficit and was unable to reverse it.

Cruel Exit hand:

Hand #54: Jonas Lauck limped from the button and big blind Robert Bickley raised to 1,500,000. Lauck called to see a flop.

The flop fell  5c 4c 3d and Bickley continued with another bet of 1,500,000. Lauck raised to 4,000,000 and Bickley announced all in within a couple of seconds. Lauck called and they opened up.

Robert Bickley:  Kh Kc
Jonas Lauck:   Tc 6c

Lauck had tons of outs but he didn't hit on the  Js  turn. He did on the  7c  river and Lauck secured the WSOP gold bracelet and the first-place prize of $260,335 while Bickley had to settle for second and $160,820.

2 Robert Bickley - $160k
7 Arron Woodcock - $35k

You are doing a great job here Albus, but you may have been given duff info there, there were a lot more than that, including several blondes (Patrick Leonard who is pleno on blonde & David Barraclough who is doobs) as well as the likes of Tony Bloom, John Kabbaj & Jeff Duvall.

Here's the full list in chip count order;

http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/17448/EV60-EOD1-COUNTS-BY-CHIPS.pdf

And by name;

And finally, by their day 2 seat & Table draw;

Keep up the good work though Bud, it's a great service you are doing, so thank you.

I have Pete Linton at my table today, so can pass on any regards.   Tony introduced me to him a few years ago.   I also have Mike Sexton at my table, which could be interseting.   Love these O8 tables, we had one bad egg yesterday, but most are very pleasant.

I sat next to Navin Bechar yesterday, and we seemed to run up our stacks up and down in unison.  I think the average of our two stacks ws less than starting with an hour to go.   Good luck if you pop by.

Cheers Tikay & Longines.

It looks like I only copied down to the bottom of the Pavilion seating & missed the Miranda - oops!

I thought we were a little light in an omaha event!

My first #WSOP event since 2017!  Could be the biggest main event ever too. Happy to be back here at the Rio!!! @partypoker 😀

I was sat next to some bloke with a Party patch in a Wynn 1k; he confirmed that Sam had come out for the Millions, but I forgot to post.   I didn't recognise him, but he let me know he only worked at Party and wasn't a sponsored pro.

I just realised the fella was Tom Waters, who is the MD of Party Poker.   I should have been a bit more suspicious as Rob Yong popped by for a lobg chat.  Duh.

Apparently Tom was still in the main 6 hours ago.

Yes, this man, (centre, spectacles) seen at the Top Golf Experience in Vegas recently with the Sky Poker party. Very good cash player too, I am told.

Looks like multiple showers in the main event for the Brits, but saw Chis Sly is still in.   Wouldn't fancy making the final table and seeing Sam Greenwood with piles of chips.

Mixed game specialist, Patrick Leonard, is fairly short in the 3k NL hold'em.

Can we claim Shola in the little one for one drop?

In other news, Brit luckbox, Vince Eley (AlbusFawkes here) went along to Aspers Stratford to play the Friday night £60 £10k Gtd NLHE starting at 7pm.

Arriving around 6pm, he sat down at a newly opened £1/£1 cash table with £150.

After a couple of orbits, the hijack raises to £5. Cutoff, button & small blind all flat. Vince looks down at
Qh Qs and pumps it up to £31. Hijack & cutoff both call, button & SB fold.
Flop  Qc Js 9s

Lovely, Vince again bets £31. Hijack shoves for around £160, Cutoff also shoves for £120.I have around £120 behind and call.

I am expecting to be facing an up & down and either flopped straight or smaller set.

Cutoff has  Kc Tc
Hijack has  Qd  Th

Turn  8s
River  Ts

I now have a favourite dealer at Aspers!

As for the tourney, at 3am I busted 18/178 for £120 - long night but a great evening overall,

From pokernews.  Pete Linton is in 2nd, with 2 shorties 3rd and 4th (now on 2m ish each).

Pot-Limit Omaha

Luc Greenwood raised to 500,000 from the cutoff and Peter Linton defended his big blind with a call.

They checked to the {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} turn where Linton announced a pot-sized bet of 1.12 million. Greenwood wanted to call and he added one chip to his pile, thinking he would slide forward 1.1 million.

However, when he did so, he realized his mistake as he pushed forward 2.1 million and, unfortunately for him, it was declared a raise.

Linton moved all in for 4.66 million and Greenwood couldn't fold at that point.

Linton: {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Greenwood: {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Linton's two pair held after the {q-Spades} river and the mistake cost Greenwood heaps of chips, allowing Linton to double into the lead.

"Oh my god," Greenwood lamented. "Oh, f***."

"Sorry, bro," Linton said.

"No, it's fine. It was my mistake. Sealed my own fate," Greenwood replied.

Peter Linton   gb         10,440,000   5,160,000
Lucas Greenwood   ca         5,280,000   -5,020,000

This is the last event of this year's series.

Early Brit runners are as follows:

Carl Shaw
Stephen Chidwick
Chris Moorman
Max Silver
Simon Deadman
Yiannis Liperis
Ludovic Geilich
Jack Salter
Jack Sinclair

Carl Shaw was involved in an early incident in which he doubled up.

Less than two levels into the day, hearing a floor shout for security is always a peculiar incident.

According to Carl Shaw, he'd just eliminated an opponent in a three-bet pot with QQ against A 9. They got it in on a nine-high board and queens held to eliminate his opponent.

His opponent allegedly then stood up and threatened to hit Shaw, after which a slanging match broke out and eventually the player was escorted from the room.

#89 $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em

Not long after making his biggest career live cash of $59,295 in this years ME after finishing 101st, Carl claims his first Bracelet.

Carl was chip leader throughout the Final Table but really steamrollered his opposition from 6 handed. Tony Dunst put up a good fight but finally succumbed to the big stack.

The only, small, disappointment might be that he didn't get to bust Phil Hellmuth.

Excellent stuff Albus, easy to see that a whole lot of work went in to that & it's genuinely appreciated.

Don't be a stranger now, we could use some more regular posters.

Cheers Tikay - I'm looking to play more poker these days, so will be looking to hone my skills and this forum is a good place to start.

This years WSOP has really pushed me to be more active in both tourneys & live games.

Cash games at resorts world are going to be interesting now.   Telford is the new hotbed of poker in the UK.   #telfordmob.   Carl and Sean Mills (among numerous other Telford based pros online and live) have had great summers.   I wondered why i was struggling in the games i was playing.  Now i know why!   2nd generation of dour West midland pros!

The kid who imo is the next big thing potentially in the West Midlands was Sean mills (deep wsop main finish) or Harry Ross (or his brother Dan who has recently quit his job to go pro).  The first time i met him two years ago i just thought 'the next Simon Deadman'.  I have played in cash games with these kids for tthe last 2 years and they are very very good.  Carl is just a brutal gambler and has literally zero fear.   I imagine he has 'other income' shall we say to be polite but he is a relentless pressure gambler who sticks it up everyone he plays.   I flipped him twice blind for a grand the very first night i played against him at Walsall in a cash game 2 years ago because i thought he was full of shit but he wasn't he stuck it down lost 0-2 and still had a smile on his face.  He is a proper fearless old school gambler.   Sean mills and Harry ross are the real up and coming talents coming out of telford imo.   They will be around for many years.  They 100% make it pay day in day out online.   Not sure Carl is an online player.

Lovely to see West midlands poker kicking on.  Mickey, Marty and surinder would be very proud i am sure.

Great work Albus.

Incred ffs lookalike too.

Next big thing to emerge from the Luton scene is...nah, nobody, place has gone to shit. The game really is a farce there now. Ethan Brown aside. Kid got skillz.

Many thanks for all the comments - good to know that my efforts were appreciated.

Thanks also for the warm welcome.

Currently in Yarm for the annual Raise 4 Jack charity event. Hoping to reclaim my title after letting someone else borrow it last year!
