1  Poker Forums / The Rail / Where to start? on: June 07, 2011, 07:20:53 PM
Hi, I'm just looking for any help and advice on this subject.

I've had mix success live and I've shipped a couple tournaments here and there, but nothing special. Just the usual £25+ freezeout comps etc. at Casino'a with about 100 +/- runners and £1000 give or take for first place.

Last one I won was on 23rd May at Broadway Casino which was £955 for first.

I've recently stopped playing for a while and the first time I played in about 3-4 months was the competition above.

I'm just generally looking for advice on where is the best place to start and what are the appropriate competitions for me to enter to get a starting point and to start making some proper money. Would I be best off to start at the side events at the GUKPT and other big tournaments like when Casino's host their special £100 + competitions etc.. Just wondering where the starting step is for me and where should I start out, I don't really enjoy playing online and I much much prefer playing live.

I know players like Jake Cody and Toby Lewis all started somewhere and other UK players who play in the GUKPT's and DTD Deepstack and other events regularly. I'm just looking for advice and help on where to start.

Thank you for any input.

I bet about 3/4 of the pot and call any re-raise, we can re-evaluate on the turn depending which card comes especially if its a scare card.

I guess he's probably check-raising the turn as well if he has a hand as big as KJ910 etc.. with the plus another spade.

I think you played the hand right and made the correct play, we're essentially turning our hand into a bluff catcher, when he bets the river its a big bet near enough the pot, so what can he be doing it here with, his bet is kinda fishy to me and it looks liek he is trying to represent that he is bluffing....but I'm 100% sure that more times than not he has the goods.

good fold.

I think its a good fold, you can't really beat much tbh unless he puts you on just Aces and thinks he make you fold on a river which is a total scare card for our hand.

I would expect him to have some sort of wrap+flush draw on the turn but then wouldn't he bet if his hand was as strong as KJ910 on the turn, especially if he has the + x spade :s
