28k $150 buyin on 'tilt.
I'm not sure it was the right call pre flop, was gonna lay it down, but decided I'd see a flop.

Full Tilt Poker Game #2236012577: $28,000 Guarantee (16051111), Table 19 - 25/50 - No Limit Hold'em - 15:45:06 ET - 2007/04/18

What do you do here?

I decided to just call; I didn't want to put too much of my stack at risk.

Yriel calls 450
theone111 raises to 2,200
Martello Tower folds

now what?

I figure I's all in or fold, but decided to fold since I didn't want to risk most of my stack on a coin flip. In a cash game, I think I'd generally push. Since it was a tourney, I decided to fold and wait for a better spot.

Yriel has 15 seconds left to act
Yriel folds
Uncalled bet of 1,750 returned to theone111
theone111 mucks
theone111 wins the pot (1,800)

What do people think of the way I played the hand? I got a pretty bad outcome in that I put in 450 on a draw and didn't even get to see anymore cards, but I'm not sure I did much wrong.

thanks for the posts.
That confirms what I thought anyway. I called, flopped the nut str8 (9 J Q) on a rainbow board and took all his chips. He didn't show (and you can't check on mansion), but he said he had AA, which I believe. He said I made an abismal call pre flop, which I argued against and I just wanted to check what you guys thought. Thanks.

ok. 3 handed $1/$2 cash game on mansion. I'm on button on $230ish, SB has about $100. SB has shown quite a lot of aggression thus far, but I do actually believe him for a big hand in this situation since the raise is so small and usually his raises have been pretty big.

I make it $6 to go from the button with KTo, SB raises it to $12, BB folds. Back to me.

Assuming his range is AA/KK/QQ most likely and perhaps AK/JJ, what do you do? (Edit: It's perhaps possible he has AQ or 1010 too) You know you're very likely dominated, but it's pretty cheap. See a flop and reassess then, or just dump it here and now?

7  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: blonde/mansion deal IMPORTANT CHANGES on: April 02, 2007, 12:43:42 PM
hi there!
Just wondering, do we have to email you or mansion saying which tourneys we entered etc. or will we get refunded automatically?

I can see how this might be annoying for those without money already in their mansion account, but I'm over the moon about it: I can pick and choose my time to play. No more franticly phoning round my poker playing friends to see if someone wants to play my tourney for %50! Good work Mansion
9  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Good move or donkish? on: March 23, 2007, 12:43:07 PM
ok. haven't got the hand history for this one, but I'd like hear people's thoughts.

100k guaranteed on mansion.

Blinds at 50/100, I'm on about 2.1k.

I'm in the cutoff. MR.X on Button and MR.Y on BB.

MR.Y doesn't like limpers and MR.X steals/resteals a lot from the button.

It folds round to me in the cutoff and I've got KJ. I want to gain some chips so I consider the steal, but decided not to given I don't want to be facing a reraise from MR.Y or MR.X.

I decide to play them at their own game and limp with the intention restealing if one of them raises (which I expect them to do).

MR.X raises pot to 450. The blinds fold and I shove for another 1.65k.

MR.X thinks for a bit then calls with 66, I miss and am out of the tourney.

I figured my stack size was perfect for this move; the reraise would be 1 1/2 times the pot which I thought would be plenty to get rid of anything less than premium. What my move too obvious? I think I might well make that move with JJ-AA give then nature of the players acting behind me. Obviously if I'd realize the guy was gonna be willing to put half his chips in on a coin flip I wouldn't have tried the move

What do people think?
10  Poker Forums / The Rail / poker training sites on: March 23, 2007, 10:31:08 AM
I've recently thought about investing some money into becoming a member of a  reputable poker training site run by pros. Is anyone here a member of one of these? Is it useful?

Also, are we allowed to mention the names of other websites in the forum? If not that my stifle this discussion somewhat.

12  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: What is the point in min-raising? on: March 08, 2007, 07:07:01 PM
Sometimes I'll make a bet on the river to get some more money in the pot, on occasions this will be the minium.

I should have made it more clear in the original post, but I'm refering to min-raises pre-flop. I think everyone will agree that min-raises post flop certainly have their place.
13  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: dry pot close to bubble on: March 06, 2007, 05:03:59 AM
I think that the only time it's out of order (and stupid) to bet into a dry pot on the bubble in a tournament is when you make your bet and think that the chances are that the guy all in has you beat. In this spot I think you've got every right to protect your hand.
14  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: What is the point in min-raising? on: March 06, 2007, 01:23:11 AM
i thought this topic might generate a bit of action so to speak.

i've been thinking about it a bit more recently and there are 2 situations when I think there's any point whatsoever in a min-raise.

Firstly when you're relatively deep, you're in late position and you want to play a hand heads up with the bb. In this case, you might min-raise give the sb worse odds so they'll prob fold if they have crap. Also, if you're in the cut-off, you can buy position. So I suppose it's a cheap way of trying to get a hand heads up (if that's what you desire).

The second might be if you're reasonable late in a tournament and the bb is a medium to short stack. In this case you may actually have fold equity on your raise.

Having said all this, you'll still never catch me min-raising. I agree with Rookie.
15  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / What is the point in min-raising? on: March 04, 2007, 04:21:38 AM
Not strictly hand analasys, but a general strategy question.

I see no point in min-raising pre-flop in virtually any situation, yet even in the bigger buy-in tournament ($50-$200), I see people doin it all over the place.

What's the point???!!!
