IMO when you are getting close to the money, or the next person out moves the remaining players up, you may consider checking down. This is pretty common in STTs when 4 remain.  But in a larger MTT, the goal is to when the overall comp and not just get your money back.  I can see betting to narrow the field as it only benefits the ones remaining in the pot.  After all the goal is to accumulate chips to give yourself the best chance of winning not making your money back.  Just an alternate stategy.  You may have considered a call if you think it is worth the risk to give you more chips for later - and you have enough left if you lose.

I am late to the game here.  If you really wanted to take his money, you have to apply the max pressure pre-flop.  When he tries to steal, go all-in.  It will look like you are trying to protect your hand and he will call if has AK, AQ or maybe even KQ (since he has been so aggressive and on a rush).  If he calls you may get outdrawn, but you put your chips in with the best of it.  If he folds, you stole back and he will think twice about raising your BB.  I would never have a problem putting my tourney life on the line with AA preflop.  Many go broke waiting until after the flop.

I would have to lay yours down the way you played it.

Those are a little looser starting hands than I would start with, but once you flop such power you have to go with it.  If you pretend to be weak, you cannot be so frusterated when the other players actually buy into your act and think you are week.  Slow playing in Omaha is very risky for the exact reasons you have shown.  Some players will not fold even when drawing to less than the nuts.  Not being able to lay down a low full house, set or sucker straight is a bad habit most of us probably still have from NLHE.  With all the possibilities and players that see flops in Omaha, you may be better off playing tighter and come out blazing when you flop a monster.  You don't have to mix up your game as much as in NLHE, because others will chase regardless.  It is more about reading the board than the player most of the time.

I don't know what the other guy was doing, but I think I would have folded your cards after the flop also.  When you have A2XX, you have to hit a flop hard to stay in the hand.  Pumping up the pot in the hopes of splitting is not profitable in the long run.  You can really make your money in this game by scooping the pot when you have the nut hi and there is no low or you have a good chance with the low nut and mediocre hi hand.  I would never put many chips at risk when you only have  realistic chance an the lo.  Too many times you will lose 3/4 of the pot when someone ties your lo and holds a good hi.  Because of all the options, online Omaha players will chase almost anything to the end.  It is when you flop a monster that you want to pump the pot.  If they fold early you probably wouldn't have made any money anyway, but if you let them stay they are going to hit a bigger monster sometimes and you can't lay yours down.  Good luck to you!

I started trying to build my bankroll at the beginning of last year.  I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but will be happy to share with you what I have learned.  Initially, I was most comfortable playing STTs but I wanted to make the transition to ring games.  You should begin where you are comfortable (game type and buy-in level).  Two or three winning/losing sessions should not have a big impact on your bankroll.  Particularly in a ring game, you want to feel comfortable enough risking the necessary amount to get the returns you want.  I made a spreadsheet to track buy-in, blind level, hours and cash out for ring games.  I have a similar sheet for STTs.  After a period of time, I had enough data to see where I had the most success and I concetrated more on those games to build my bankroll.  You can set small goals for yourself that must be met before you move to higher buy-in games.  For example, if you start at .25/.50 NLH you can buy-in for $50 when you start.  If you increase your bankroll (from this type of game only) to $250 or $300, you may want to move up.  If you lose $150 or $200, you will want to back off to a lower level to ensure you are in your comfort zone and build your bankroll again.

Most importantly I agree with AdamM, you have to put a lot of time in and find your comfort zone.  Be patient, it will take time.  I hope my little bit of experience will help you.  Good luck!

Many thanks for the input.  I will arrive late on a Monday, around 5pm.

Any idea about the buy-ins and limits (or no limit)?

I am fairly new to the site and need a little help.  I will be in the Nottingham area in a couple of months and don't know anything about the area.  Can someone advise a good place to play some no limit hold em and a decent hotel near?  I am guessing I will have to apply for a membership before visiting?  Many thanks.
