id would of told him i was a police officer and seen how he reacted, but to me most of these stories sounds like a cashpoint scams, the guy waits in the car while you draw out money but another guy is close by watching you type your pin you card get either stuck or copied through a false face on the cash point, hey presto they have your card (or a copy) and your pin number!
get these same sort of people at teeside where i play, i find the best approach is to purposely wind them up but at the same time show your not intimidated by them at all.
