I've always loved reading a newspaper, though it has to be my own unopened copy, there's something about the crisp pages of an unopened newspaper.

First paper I read was the Daily Herald, which morphed into The Sun in the early sixties. From there I worked my way up to The Times & FT. I abandoned The Times after it went Tabloid & the actual "news" content became about 3 pages, the rest being fill. The FT was a great read but after I went busto the first time in the late 80's & had to sell all my shares there seemed no point.

In the USA though, they have three magnificent daily newspapers in the Washington Post, New York Times & Wall Street Journal, & when I'm in the States I make a point of buying them every day. I'm a speed reader but even so there's an hour of good solid reading in each of them.

I became so addicted to them after a recent trip to the States that I went to my local newsagent (which is a misnomer these days, there's no such thing really) to get them delivered, but they said "deliver newspapers, what?". No paper boys? Jeez. We ALL had paper round as kids, didn't we? I had 3 actually, & they each paid 2/6 a week though I had to pay that to my parents for "board & lodge".

Circulation of print Dailies has of course declined by about 80% in the last 40 years, most of them don't even publish circulation numbers any more for fear of scaring away advertisers.

I suppose I could subscribe to Digital version of those USA 'papers for around $2 per week, but reading news Online is not the same. (Similar to Kindles & proper books). Especially on Sky News. Click the article "7 million killed in Tsunami" or whatever & before you can read the article we have to watch a 30 second advert for Tesco or Incontinence Pants.

Anyway, whilst here I'm reading some quality Newspapers whilst I still have the chance. Proper news, in-depth articles, & a good hour to get through. News Heaven.
Same here Tony. I only read actual books. Used to read several a week, but spend too much time online nowadays.
Have hundreds of books in the house, waiting to be read

Nice one Tony, I hope to join you tomorrow.  2 bullets no joy yesterday.
Down to 7k (from 25k) after 5 hands today but somehow on 1st bullet with 55k first break.  Crazy game .
Good luck tomorrow if I don’t see you - which hotel did you move to ?

Morning Rob.

I had a peruse of the WSOP App but never saw your name there, no good? What's today's plan?

Hotel palaver - I never changed Hotels, I changed Rooms. There's some obscure Nevada State Law that says you are not allowed to book more than 10 or 12 days at a time & Boyd Gaming, who own The Orleans, enforce it. So I had 2 bookings, back to back. Checked out at 11am, went & did some shopping, came back an hour later & checked back in.

Yeh no joy in big O, lasted to level 10.  Then had many many corona .
Early bath today in plo at V too.
Just went through extending my stay until next Tuesday which despite being diamond plus was still a hassle.
In my app it says all comped but host in diamond room insists I pay a paltry $30 a night for 3 nights - so little I’m not sure why they don’t just comp it all lol .  She also tells me I have to go the old fashioned go to front desk tomorrow evening to see if they can keep me in the same room the next day and avoid “moving rooms” like yourself.  Sometimes I do wonder if it’s 2026, some things are still way behind the ball for modern times.

This "having to switch rooms" malarky makes no sense, but I guess they are just staying the right side of the Nevada rule thing.

Mr google states....

There is no Nevada law specifically preventing hotel or motel stays longer than 11 days. In fact, under state law, stays that go beyond 30 consecutive days trigger Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 118A, which governs landlord-tenant relationships. Because of this 30-day threshold, many hotels and resorts in Nevada limit stays to 14, 21, or 28 days to prevent guests from legally establishing permanent "residency rights". If a guest attains tenant status under state law, the hotel must pursue a formal, lengthy court eviction process to remove them.To get around this and avoid establishing legal tenancy, many extended-stay properties or hotels require long-term guests to either:Temporarily check outMove into a different roomFor stays expected to last longer than the 11-to-30-day threshold, extended-stay properties operate under different licensing rules than standard, transient resorts

I knew it was 30 days, so surprised by their rules for a short stay in comparison.
Though populised by Howard hughes refusing to leave his hotel, it's more about they can no longer charge you tax on your hotel stay after 30 days

Doesn't help that it appears to have been going on for a while and they have been on an amazing unbeaten run at the same time

England will fk it up, as they have shown countless times.
Will leave too many runs out there, giving away wickets

I'm in training for marathon in Oct, latest run was an aim of 10-12 miles, depending on how I felt.
Ended up running 12.4 miles in 2h2m.
Wasn't taking much notice at the time as 12 miles was the goal. If I had kept going at the pace, a half mara would have been done in a 6min pb.

Probably going to run Jon MW local half marathon, which has been rearranged for start of Oct. It it very hilly, so good practice for Beachy Head marathon

Current weight 14st 7, my VO2 max is 42 according to my Garmin
Last BP reading was 158/92

you tube golf vids.

Anyone got favs? There are so many and unfortunately a lot of them have either very little content or don't actually cover the topic billed. One I watched the other day claimed to show the difference between good putters and bad putters and then prattled on about the most common error of good putters until I gave up with it.

This is an ok one for content and somewhat on topic with thread readers.

Golf life with Jimmy Bullard

Incidentally, I tried to renew my long-lost Caesars Reward Card this morning & it rejected me, saying my e-Mail address was already showing as registered. I so wanted to say "well great, let's use that then" but it's an Online form where there's no facility for such comments.

Anyway, Paris/Horseshoe here I come, with a bucket full of patience & a goof book, as there'll be queues galore.

I think you just reprint a card at a machine or rewards desk .  Plenty of people lose them so it makes sense it doesn’t let you sign up again.
Gonna try all my stuff later , will report back if I’m not too distracted and tired .

Tempted to play to 2pm mgm limit 08
Nugget has a big O 5pm I think but not heading there today

Customs queue right now
Same when I went to Florida earlier in teh year. Guy seemed disinterested, quick look at passport and sent on our way

Well damn, I've just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes as well.

So far they haven't mentioned diet, only to take Metformin. They also said my blood pressure and cholesterol were the high end of normal so because of the diabetes diagnosis I've got drugs for those as well.

But this is literally all within the last few weeks, so they still have time to add something about food.

Hopefully everything stabilises out nicely for you, and I, and a new stasis level comes around soon.

Ha, got high cholesterol and blood pressure was borderline too.  They offered me statins, but was of the view that restricted diet + Metformin + statins was too much at once.   They gave the impression, statins were up to me, as my readings weren't that bad.

Metformin has been a ball ache as I have a long commute and find I am half way to work before I realise I haven't taken it, but am getting better at remembering.

Going to see how my cholesterol is after the diet and take it from there.  With a bit of luck I won't need any of the drugs in 6 months.  If cholesterol is still high, will probably take the statins.

Weird question, but how much do you test your blood?  Turns out one of the other blokes at work was also diagnosed recently.  He has been told to test his blood twice a day; me once a week.  His sounds more extreme though.  Reading around, different sources say entirely different things, so might just do twice a week or something not too extreme.

Sorry to hear that Doobs, stick with the diet and exercise where you can, try and minimise the drugs if you can avoid them.
Mind you, my Dr would state I am a nightmare as I refuse to take meds that are prescribed.
I have very high blood pressure, but all other bloods tests are in range and symptom free. While i'm not a tin foil hat merchant, my BP was always normal/low pre covid jab.

On the exercise front, I completed the ultra in March, then took four weeks off running. It was very rocky on the trails and it wrecked my feet. lots of blisters and toes going black. Also messed with my stomach for a week.
Run 61min 10k last week on an easy training run, not sure how as it was 3 mins faster than my typical run for that distance.

Have you looked into getting something like a card from Chase bank?
I have one for the states as it works as a debit card, at the mid market rate and doesn't charge fees as far as I now, when using it in the states
