I was in seat 3. There was a guy in a yellow shirt on seat one, one of the three crazy fella's in seat 2 and seat 4 and i was in between them. That old dude didn't seem too happy with the young fella. Were you the guy that was wearing shades? I'm glad i seemed to fair ok. I thought i was quite well prepared for the thing, but being at the table and it was like a blur most hands. I was struggling to work out pot odds, i was even struggling to work out my starting hands in each position. Still, i'll be more prepared next time and maybe i'll get some cards worth playing Give me a shout if you see me in, and you can point out any points that my gills and fins are too obvious. Cheers Chris

Hi alll, yeah, i was in thursday night. I started at table D, upstairs and to the right. I got moved to (strangely) table D after the break, which was downstairs. i was the tall scruffy looking guy with long hair. i hung about for an hour or so after i went out and had a couple of beers which were not too bad considering i'd just lost 40 quid ;-) To be serious, it was nerve wracking, i did not want to look like and idiot, but i wanted to try and play a bit of poker.I will definitely be back and one of you guys should come and find me and buy me a beer.

Poker Forums / The Rail / Finally got round to playing a proper live game

I finally got my arse in gear and went down to cincinnati's for a live game. I thought i did not too bad given that i'd not played live before. I lasted without a rebuy and decided to take a top up as i was a wee bit low on chips. I ended up going out when the blinds were catching up with my chip stack and i took a chance on when it had been folded round to me in late positiotn. I got called with and didn't hit anything. All in all it was a good night. There was some strange play at my table when three guys who arived together ended up at the same table as me and were slugging it out like you wouldn't believe. but it made some interesting viewing, even if some of the other players were complaining about it a bit. One thing i will say though is that it's a different game playing live to playing online. Admitttedly you have a bit more time to make decisions, but it doesn;t feel lie it. a minute under 9 pairs of eyes is a lot shorter than 20 seconds with a little time bar ticking down. I went in with a game plan, which was to try and play tight and not get ripped in the first few hands which i achieved. When i first hit the table i was pretty nervous. Every time i went into a pot the ol' heart rate took a step up. I was quite surprised at that as i'm a bit on an adreniline junkie and normally i have to be doing something dangerous to get a reaction like that, but i think i managed to avoid looking like a nervousr wreck. I managed to take a couple of pots with well thought out (at least i think they were) bets, so i couldn;t have looked like i had grown gills and fins too much. To conlcude, i had a great night and will be back for more, although i think i need another couple of reads at Dan Harringtons book ( and maybe a better hand then next times) :-) Take it easy all Chris

Seeing as theres's some real random stuff on here i thought i'd see what your favoutire whisky's are. Mine, in terms of a reasonable drink are
1. laphroaig 2. The Macallan 3. Glenfiddich
I'm also partial to a bruichladdich, glenmorangie, and lagavulin
The order of these may depend on how much of each i have consumed at any time.

I had a similar problem recently. My fireplace is not boarded up and it has one of those living flame gas fires in it. Anyway, i came home from work one day and there was some small pieces of rubble scattered all round the fireplace. There had been a strong wind that day so i thought nothing much of it. This continued for a couple of days until my missus insisted that i get someone round to check it. Anyway, in between me looking up a chimney repair place and them turning up, we were sitting quietly watching a film one saturday night, when a massive scraping sounds occured followed what can only be described as a 'fwhumph' I looked at the (thankfully switched off) fireplace to see a very large, very stunned pigeon lying on the coals. I carried him outside to let him go, but he was knackered. I called him Lenny, put him in an empty beer box i had handy with some comfy bedding and some bird seed and left him in the porch. Sadly he died during the night.
i got the cold after that and was worried i had bird flu, but i'm ok now.

I'm fairly new here so all i have narrowed down my conclusions about the previous post to the following. 1) I'm missing some running joke. 2) You are extremely drunk 3) You are stark raving mad I have not ruled out a combination of all three of the above. Chris

Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: N/P - Adding music to PC
|

you could connect the tape player to the microphone or line-in jacks on your PC and just record the music that way. Depending on teh software you have available you could either record as a .wav file (which you'll need to convert to MP3 later) or straight to mp3. Do each song at a time. The alternative would be to record each side of the tape into 1 big file and then break the big file down into each indivudual track later using audio editing software.
This techique will work just as well for vinyl, or indeed any audio source.
Chris
p.s you'll need to make sure that you are using a stereo line in or all your tracks will be converted to mono.

In a game with some friends recently. Late on in the game i was out and i was shown someones hand after the flop (they were holding three 10's) and asked quietly, "does this beat 2 pairs?" I resisted the temptation to shout "you've been playing poker for two hours and you don't know the hand rankings?" I assumed that it was a prerequisite for playing the game, but apparently not in some peoples eyes.
It got me thinking about the main things that every player should know before sitting down at the table. I'll start with
1. Hand Rankings
anyone care to add to the list?
