Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: DUSK TILL DAWN - HAVE YOUR SAY AT THE COURT HEARING..............

I would like to play poker at Dusk Till Dawn because it will provide a safe, welcoming environment for someone like me who otherwise is unlikely to play in a live, social setting. I do not feel comfortable in having to go to a casino simply to play a competitive game which I consider involves a considerable amount of skill.
The efforts that the proprietors of DTD have gone to in order to provide a first class, ordered and well run establishment are self evident.
Additionally the club will provide considerable employment in the local area. If people like me are prepared to come from Leeds when I won't go in a casino five minutes down the road then it's farly clear that there is a demand for what DTD has to offer.
There is every chance that International tournaments will be played there, leading to an increase in visitors and profile for the region.
I wish them well in their endeavours and look forward to playing in an environment dedicaterd to poker and poker alone.

Dan is all in for 97k (what a surprise)... Jerome calls the 72k extra from the big blind. vs - ooh, not a good match up for a double through, and with an Ace and two Tens on the flop, Dan was already standing up as the turn and river came out. So Dan Carter finishes 6th, winning £18,0004th, surely FMP No idea what that means, but it looks rude It's been a long day...but not as long as it has been for those at the felt (respect).

Days like that truly make you wonder. Heads up last night on a S&G I have 88. By the turn there are three sevens and a five on the board. I click the all in button and he calls with J4. Only a jack (or highly unlikely 7) can beat me (or so I thought). Stars being Stars down comes the 7 on the river and we each have quads. Even worse I was ignorant of the fact that kickers count on quads so I lose the pot and the game in the next few hands. I'll not make that mistake again . I feel your pain, though somehow don't think others will necessarily be so sympathetic

I was genuinely interested.

Just part of the records I keep of each game, nothing more, nothing less I'd kinda learnt that these things come with the territory, but thanks for the heads up

Chance of 3 cards same suit on flop if you are not holding any and you don't put anyone else on a flush draw:
12/49 (chance of 2nd card being same suit as 1st) x 11/48 (i.e. 11 remaining cards of that suit / 48 cards left)= 132/2352
Chance of turn being same suit also:
132/2352 x 10/47 = 1320/110544 which is approx. 1.2% chance
If I've made any mistakes, hopefully some maths whizz will come along and correct me.
Can't think why this stat would be useful though. Hope you're not drawing to flushes with off-suit cards.
Thanks for this. Quite the contrary actually. Without getting into any mythical debates about site software I've been killed no less than 21 times in approaching 400 sit and gos at Stars when all in by runner, runner, runner, runner flush. It's rather annoying when your trip Kings get trashed by a guy holding the three of diamonds in his hand and down they come, one by one. Actually I nearly smashed my screen yesterday it was so annoying

I'd be really grateful if someone could help me here. I'd appreciate some basic odds on the community cards containing four cards of the same suit. I appreciate that this is situational, dependant on what cards have already been folded or are held in live hands and the number of players at the table, but a rough guide would be very welcome. If I were greedy I'd also be interested to know what the odds of the second two flop cards plus the turn and river being of the same suit are, but I feel I may be pushing my luck as it is!

I have a blog but to be honest I'm such a rank amateur that the thought of decent players looking even once puts me off from advertising the fact to most people. For what it's worth though the contributions I have had have helped me considerably. There's one arrogant tos*er who belittles my attempts to learn the game but having read his at least I can console myself with the knowledge that unlike him I'm semi-literate and likely to have more friends than he does .

Having just been sent packing from an online tourney by a mid stack who raised my AK to all in with 56 suited I'd say it's hardly just the live games that suffer.
People are learning. At my expense sometimes, I guess. What did he think? That I was bluffing? That he has a soooted connector and therefore it had to be worth a shout?
God knows, but as a 'veteran' with only a few months play under my belt all I do is tighten up and let others engage. They'll be found out eventually.

Poker Forums / The Rail / Christmas presents for a poker fanatic
|
on: December 03, 2006, 01:06:15 PM
|
Apologies if this is in the wrong place or is a duplication of an existing topic Could anyone recommend books/DVDs for a poker fanatic that are slightly out of the mainstream? Hilger, Sklansky, Harrington etc are known about, but there might be a little gem out there which is not so well known. The intended recipient plays low stakes limit hold'em mainly but is as far as I'm aware profitable. He also plays low buy in MTTs & S&Gs. It would be great if any suggestions were available to purchase on-line Thank you in advance for any help - much appreciated.

That's part of the worry - I get knocked out early doors and then spend the rest of the night spending the income support . Also I really do feel I need to stick around here a bit more, introduce myself and get a feel for it all. I've only just made my first cash deposit. BB4 will be a definite Thanks for the encouragement though. Much appreciated!
