I taught my nephew (aged and niece (aged 11) how to play Badugi the other day, as it's one of the easiest poker varients to learn. Due to time constraints we played it no limit rather than limit. My very first hand I made the nut Badugi (A,2,3,4 all different suits) without having to draw any cards. My niece soon picked up that I had a made hand and folded, but my nephew is too reckless and stayed in the hand all the way, losing all his chips, despite me giving as many clues as I could about my hand! I've advised him never to take up poker.
Are there any live tournaments available in the UK that are not NLHE? If so, are these listed anywhere? I really enjoy playing omaha, stud, razz, HORSE, 5-card draw and 2-7 triple draw, but have only played these over the internet. I'd rather just play live these days.
Don't know if you guys are aware of this as I've not visited the forum for a while.
There's a free space simulator which is available called orbiter. It's difficult to fly at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's very addictive. Plus there's a community of enthusiasts who regularly make new ships, scenery and other add ons.
Played terrible poker most of the weekend but enjoyed meeting up with other member's on this forum and having a chat. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it to the next event!
Looking forward to meeting up again with a few familiar faces. Playing on Sunday, so I'll just be relaxing and maybe squeeze a couple of sit and goes in, if any get up and running in the background. Good luck everyone and have fun!
The WSOP argument doesn't really add up; when you get shorthanded you're already quids in to the tune of over £1m.
Of course it does. OK, when we both make the final table of the WSOP 2008 main event, I'll let to take one million if you let me have first place of eight million, plus all the plaudits, advertising, social functions for the next year, etc.
My favorite game at the moment is Civilization IV with the two expansion packs, Warlords, and Beyond The Sword. I like the way every game plays differently and that there's more than one way to win in the game.
I also like playing Rome: Total War. I like the way you really feel like you're part of an army taking on the Gaul's or however else stands in your way. The political element of the game, as you try to gain favor with the senate, and ultimately control over Rome itself, adds an interesting twist.
One game I'm really looking forward to it's release in the near furture is Spore by Maxis, who developed games such as Sim City and all it's spin offs. In spore, you start of as a single cell organism, and have to survive long enough to replicate. Eventually, if you play the game long enough, as you evolve, you develop a space faring race and can visit billions of new planets, interact with other races and experiment on other life forms.
Well Lee, your memory must be failing, as you made a deal with MickyP after knocking me out the night before the APAT event in Cardiff (which you won as well!)
Personally, I feel too many deals go on and people miss out on the opportunity to play heads up. I would want to get as much practice as I could. It could pay dividends if I ever manage to play in a prestigious tournament and make the final table, such as the WSOP main event. (Well I can dream, can't I?)
On a now defunct online site which I used to play on regularly, dynamitepoker, they had deal making facilities, which made it rather unique in that respect. Being such a small site affiliated with another poker forum, everyone knew everyone else, including the pit boss who ran the site. I was known as being a tough opponent who wouldn't make deals. I remember one game where one guy suggested I take first, as I had a massive chip lead and was favorite to win anyway, and the other two split second and third prizes equally. Naturally, I agreed to that, but most of the time I rarely made deals. Bear in mind that these weren't big games and only for a few dollars.
P.S. I found your stories on this thread very interesting Tikay, esp. about the $1000 sit and goes. I hope to be at that level one day, although I've just dropped down levels significantly. I'm using Jesus' Ferguson's bankroll challenge method to instill some bankroll discipline. It seems to be working so far
This one always gets to me, especially when you realise the chap who wrote it died three months after he had wrote it, when his Spitfire collided with another aircraft during the second world war.
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
One of the best threads I've read on this forum in quite a while. I can't offer any better advice than what has already been written, so I'll just wish you the best of luck with your goals.
