Don't know if you guys are aware of this as I've not visited the forum for a while.
There's a free space simulator which is available called orbiter. It's difficult to fly at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's very addictive. Plus there's a community of enthusiasts who regularly make new ships, scenery and other add ons.
