For your information:

Whilst I consider the acceptance of bribes to be gross misconduct and grounds for dismissal, as do all right thinking people working in purchasing and supply, I can accept the slanderous post-fix in the spirit intended.

I wish the Blonde cardroom and its parent organisation every success.

I can assure readers that Corporate and Social Responsibility is not only a requirement as Tighty said, it is also high on list of expectations of many stakeholders. It is practised rigorously by many FTSE-100 companies as well as public sector bodies, and is a key principle to which I, as a procurement professional, am required to adhere.

For community service, I had another DVD in mind...

Perhaps she should just perform community service.

I note that the Commission for Racial Equality have welcomed Channel 4's stance - responsible broadcasting indeed.

I have never met these people, we move in different orbits, and it really does not concern me one iota. I am not fully conversant with their cases, I am only aware of the media perception of them.

However, three points of interest:
1) the extent to which wealth can provide a better legal defence, if at all, in the USA and here in the UK, and our acquiescence in it.
2) the propensity of a hypocritical media to build up and knock down people's personas, for our edification. I do not believe George Best was a nice guy, or Daniella Westbrook was the devil in Burberry.
3) some of the real injustices in the world, compared to this trivia that we glimpse: Michael Shields, Darfur, and so on.

Rant over - In other news, World still turning.

Maybe subtitles are akin to on-screen displays of hole cards in TV poker programmes: useful, superfluous, a minor irritation, or vital to the plot according to your viewpoint.

Foreign language films can be a refreshing change from McHollywood fare: they are more than cultural marmite.

There are some great foreign language films out there - I'm a fan of asian films, these are all very accessible:

Farewell My Concubine
2046
Kung-fu Hustle
Chungking Express
Hana-bi
Battle Royale
Hard Boiled
Ring
Spirited Away

And of course Crouching Tiger...

This is the video to Close But No Cigar, from his latest album Straight Outta Lynwood. Animated by the Ren and Stimpy team, it is very funny but not safe for work.

You may as well try and get Spandau Ballet's "Gold" adopted as the national anthem - actually, I signed that one.

I'm confused: will he be upping the ante on who's the hottest poker player, and will his trainees be good enough to cash in the Women's UK Poker Tour? Have the DTD models been signed up?

To paraphrase Twiggy Rathbone: Tits sell poker magazines - they also buy them.

I think that putting Mark Thomas in there is a bit harsh, considering he is one of the few people prepared to actually oppose the encroaching Big Brother state. I don't always agree with his methods - Chris Morris described him as "the man who bullies receptionists" - but an evening with him is hardly room 101 material. Mark Steel, however...

Oh go on then, I'll join in. I nominate the oxy-morons:

Jade Goody
Myleen Klaas
Dennis Wise

Why not find the box-file with your old birthday cards in it, put them back out on top of the monitor, desk, cistern, wherever, and place an empty whisky bottle on your lap just before the nurse arrives? Throw her off the scent...

Is that my coat?
