Your opinions on this call please , I got a bit of ribbing at the table and I really didnt think it was so bad.... My image is tight and have only showndown high quality hands , the table is quite tight but not that aggressive. ( just trying to justify my raise)

It was poor play in my opinion- these hands are great early in a tournament when the blinds are small and you can accumulate chips by trapping opponents when u hit made or very strong hands but when its late in the tournament and your near the final table they depreciate greatly as the blinds are so large- if anyone has a very strong hand then they will obviously set u all in if they have u covered or if a small stack needs to make a move-then they are more likely to make a move with any pocket pair or ace, or even high suited connectors like this guy did-

in the end up you lost almost half your stack and the reailty is u were probably going to be at best a 40% dog from any caller but could have been easily 20% against a high pocket pair- I dont question the call on the reraise for the remaining 2150 for the pot of 8800 because you were pot commited by then but you should have just got rid of the hand in the first place and you would still be sitting pretty for making the final table instead of decimating half your stack

This is a disguised bad beat story surely...Smiley

I think this is pretty close. Give Vraji a range of AJo+ ATs+ and 66+ which is fairly wide but probably fairish as he is relatively short and you've got about 29% equity against his range. This means you would call 2150 to win 2567 on average so you'd gain chips by calling if his range is correct. You'd have to tighten his range considerably (ie to only pocket pairs above and AK) before the call is -ev and you lose chips by calling.

So in a cash game you'd make a clear profit, but in tournaments you can sometimes turn down +EV to find  better spots. I'm not sure you will have time though. Fold and you have less than 10 BBs and are getting quite short.

If the players were very weak then i would fold as im confident of picking up blinds without showdowns.

If the players were very bad I would also fold as I think I can find a better spot.

If the players are all quite solid (as is usually the case in the blue square comps) then i call as calling is +EV, doesn't kill you off and propels you forward to top 3 or 4 if u win and only top 6 are paid.

People might take the view that you want to retain your solid image at the table by not showing down your hand, but if you pass the observant players will realise you were weak anyway.

I think the call's ok. Plus you've got 74 ffs.

Think of all the the hordes of adoring blondites who will buy you drink after drink as you regale them with the gripping anecdote of when you crushed bigvraji with your 74.

Cheers guys I think the raise was hasty but once I had made the raise I have to call the all in. Commiting to great a % of my chips to steal from an early position when there was no need to get quite that busy. Oh well live and learn...
