I have recently purchased Poker Tracker, but I'm looking into obtaining a new laptop come the turn of the new year.

What's the best way to transfer all my files across and how do I reinstall Poker Tracker without having to make a second purchase?

you can have it on 2 computers just email Pat. dunno how to transfer your current database tho.

just slide your hh's onto a disk and transfer them across. You should be doing this for backup as a matter of course just in case your PC ever gets nuked by the netscum out there.

Wow have you not had poker tracker before snoops , thats amazing for a cash game pro. I would have thought it is possibly the most essential software tool out there.

Yes, I had it a while ago but it went wonky so I had to uninstall it.

The way I play, it isn't necessary, but now that I have fewer opponents due to the new laws, I am obliged to use software such as poker tracker to suss out my opponents as the same faces tend to crop up.

It's been a while, oculd someone just remind me if I can separate my bpl, Party Poker, Ladbrokes ring game stats or if they automatically merge into one database.

Also, does Poker Tracker read hands from STTs?

Regarding STT's, PT is compatible with some sites but not all. I stopped using PT as I found it slowed my laptop down.

You can set up separate databases for each site - this is how I use it nowadays.

And yes it does read STT hands, but you'll need to import/manually add the tournament summary to get the results recorded.  (NB: No tourney support for Tribeca at present though).

Each database file can be copied from your old PC to your new one and then incorporated into the new PC's copy of PT using the File/Maintain Database Names menu option.  The database files are the files with the .mdb extentions in the C:\Program Files\Poker Tracker V2 directory.  If you are going to have a large amount of hands in each database it may be worth using PostgreSQL instead of Access as your database, as Access tends to slow down when the database gets very big.

One of the key things to setup when you are setting up PT initially is to make sure you select the option "Move processed files .........." when setting up the Auto import for each site.   This will allow you to keep all your hand history files (Stars deletes history files after a certain time) so if you decide that you want to change your database setup at some point you can re-import the hand histories (eg. if you wanted to move all your tourney hands into one database).  It also means that the imports are much quicker as there are fewer files to parse in the hand history folder.
