Have you ever noticed the same stories are reported on over and over. There is normally a gap of a few months between the resurfacing of some of these reports.

In no particular order.

1. School dinners and healthy eating
2. Overweight Kids
3. Mobile phones. Do they give us cancer, are they dangerous to use while driving, etc, etc, etc
4. Exam results and why the SQA ( or the equivalent educational body  in England ) have made a cock-up over marking, distribution of examination papers, etc.
5. The cost of the Scottish Parliament building ( obviously only applies to Scotland )
6. Tuition fees and a multitude of things connected to tuition fees
7. Should GAY people be allowed to teach, become ministers, adopt Kids, etc, etc
8. Head Scarfs
9. Should there be a tougher stance on Immigration?  One week someone will say we are too tough and another week we are far to soft
10. Religious arguments, this can take many forms, but in general stays the same with a slight change in the presentation

Obviously there are the important stories that should remain a constant part of our daily news reports such World conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan. But these same stories above are responsible for a large percentage of all the news that is shown.

I often think that lots of our mainstream "news" "coverage" is appallingly bad - like you say it's just the same old rubbish over and over again, with very little thought put into what anything actually means, or whether it's actually important.

Another one for you -"Eating (insert foodstuff of your choice) may increase/decrease (delete as applicable) your chance of contracting (insert unpleasant disease), a new study shows. Doctors at (random institution) say just a small amount of (foodstuff) can reduce your chance of dying from (something unpleasant) by as much as 15%..."

Say you start off with a 5% chance of getting that disease - reduce your 5% by 15%, so you've now got a 4.25% chance of getting it - assuming that everything else in your life, apart from eating blueberries or whatever, stays exactly the same. It's all nonsense.

But I'm turning into a very grumpy old man this morning, so I think I'd better go and do something else for a bit...

You think these 'news reports' are bad - you should see the 'stories' that get covered in the Metro free newspaper in the morning.

I swear that every day half the stories are 'look at this funny video on Youtube which you all saw three months ago'
