I think I could beat any bot by doing what I do best- playing badly. The bots allegedly play the optimum way and will struggle against creative play IMO. Kasparov did lose overall to Deep Blue but when he did win a match it was because (he admitted this) he played incorrectly. The computer didn't expect him to make the moves he made or should have made. If the bot expects you to play a certain way then don't (very similar to a real opponent).

I thought that kasparov adjusted his game to one that Deep Blue (the computer) couldn't cope (due to faults in the program) with; i.e. he was making moves to a specific plan that wasn't necessarily the optimum strategy for victory under normal conditions. If he had just played badly then I'm sure the computer would have taken care of him quite easily.

Not saying he played badly he played incorrectly. He actually set out to play not to win which the computer couldnt figure out a way to beat ( I remember reading an article somewhere years ago). Eventually he ground the computer down as he wasnt playing what would be classed as the correct moves (ie the moves the computer expected him to make). A situation arose in the end where the win just fell into place.
I never play poker the way people expect so it would be a doddle beating a bot  Tongue

I'm sure I read in Poker Player magazine that it WAS possible for people to use programmes that COULD see your cards. I still think it's poppycock, but it was there in black and white within an article on bots.

Any1 else read this?

Snoopy, it is possible for a hacker to get into your machine and remotely be able to see everything that is on your screen. This isn't something which is particular to poker - it's usually used to obtain passwords and banking security details etc.

The way it works is the hacker will get you to download some file, or open an email or messenger chat or something, within which will be the program which reports back on what your computer is doing.

If you take the usual security considerations when playing poker/using the net you'll be fine.

You should always make sure you have a firewall enabled on your machine. They have been known to be a bit of a pain with poker rooms as they can sometimes block your connection to them.

But yes hackers can easily get on your machine and use it as though they were sat at your computer. Machines using broadband should especially be protected as hackers prey on you to leech your bandwidth.
