Hi there,
I'm just starting out at the moment and trawling the interweb doing as much reading as possible.
There seems to be an awful lot talk about bots. I've read the recent topic on bots in here but wanted to ask what you guys think about it
Just how prevalent is it? Is is better to play tournaments to avoid them? Is there anything the sites can do about it?
All input will be gratefully received

My advice for what it's worth, play the big, well known sites and don't worry about it

It could be the death of Fixed Limit Poker, but you cannot teach a bot to bluff or play no limit Poker, maybe in 20 years you might be able to;D

Thanks,
That's definately the plan - just a little disconcerting to read so much about bots being good for targeting 'fish' such as myself. Better get good quickly!!

most of the bigger sites are way ahead of detecting bots than they let on very few upgraded bots last on the poker servers for more than a few minutes

Programs have already been written that use artificial intelligence. These bots can "Learn" how an opponent plays poker meaning they can bluff and they can play no limit holdem. Remember a Program can have an extremely large memory and how it will work is that it will start out with a basic algorithm, like a poker "A" game, from there it will store exactly how individuals play each hand and will learn to adapt to the style. Pretty freaky huh!
