Holiday Sales - Me Eye!!!

My kids had a few quid to spend in the after Christmas sales.  They pop in to one of our local Xtravision shops (I stay put in the car) and Sinéad spots a Wii game she's mad to get.  Game has a special 'sale' sticker on it for €29.99 and she's delighted.  Takes it to the till and the guy tells her it's marked wrong and if she wants the game, it's €39.99.  She's clueless and pays. 

When I get wind of it an hour later and many shops down the road, I'm furious.  Back we go.  I march in with game and receipt and tell him he's made a mistake and needs to refund the extra tenner.  He claims because he informed my daughter before making the sale, he's not liable and completely within his rights as she agreed to the sale.  She's 13 and had no idea of her rights in this case.  At first, not only did he refuse to refund the tenner, but wouldn't take back the game for a full refund as it wasn't faulty.  That was until I pointed out the game he sold her was for Over 16's and she's only 13.  Got our money back, but not before I wrote 'False advertising' on the return form.  Fecker. 

On the plus side, we got home and I found it brand new on the net for only €15...including delivery.   

Is it just me, or are these 'After Christmas Sales' a load of hogwash?  Has anyone found any genuine deals since they started?

I think from a sale of goods act point of view, the price they advertise stuff for is irrelevant.  When you hand over monies for your goods that's the offer part of the contract.  When the cashier dude accepts it that there be your contract made.  The sale price and any other price has noffin to do with noffin.  Goods have to be fit for purpose though and this was obviously not fit for a 13 year old.

In woolies yesterday you could literally take the stock off the shelves and then strip the racking down and buy it! Bargain imo.

I bought a few bottles of Croft "fine ports since 1678" Indulgence for £5.19 a bottle, when before it was retailing at over £10 a bottle, and I also managed to get a junior trampoline for £29.99 when its RRP was £99.. the only problem was testing them out at the same time, but when i woke up on the floor the next morning with nary a memory to my name, I dint feel too bad so it felt overall like a success.
