4 handed at a Live final

blinds 4,000-8,000

Cut off  60,000

Button 80,000

Small blind 60,000

Hero 140,000 in bb

SB is unknown before this comp and is passive, rarely pressuring Hero's blind and has never shoved despite stacks/blinds

He raises to 16,000 total in the sb

Hero faced with calling 8,000 into a 24,000 pot doesn't want to pass much here and calls with

do you agree with this? Stacks are likely too shallow to be able to push the sb off a hand, so calling here is hoping to hit a flop? fold? push pre and hope for live cards?

flop

check check

turn  check

He bets 15,000 with 30,000 or so behind

You have a gutterball for the low end, a gutterball straight flush draw, possibly hitting your ten is good, possibly hitting your spade is good though neither could be

What is your play here?

I would fold pre & fold now, you say he's done nothing up until now to show he's competent, yet now he min-rasies you leaving himself 6 BB's, give this one up, your getting odds on the actual call, but not on the stack situations...

You said you called to hit, you have yet to hit and all you have is a draw with 1 card to come, time to bug out and exploit him next orbit, shoving in on him ftw if he is passive tbh.

Yeah just fold pre, you can call with 67 off and things, but T5 just too marginal, and previous passivity means he must have a decent hand so just let it go

No decision on the turn, insta pass. You only want to hit the straight.

Yes

Implied odds to get the rest if you hit?

You will get the rest if you hit eitherway, however I think against this opponent you can take his chips easier by theiving his blinds, I suppose this somes down to your confidence.

Its a speculative hand thats got very sticky at this point, for me its a fold and abuse his blinbds and limps

Fold pre, if you are going to call I would bet 100% of the time when checked to on the flop

This.

In such a crapshoot 1 bb is too valuable and our hand doesn't play well. Not just that it gets us in more trouble than good when we catch a semi piece against a villain who doesn't get out of line.

4-handed and with the stack you have I'd want to be putting my chips in by raising. You can't do that here under the circumstances so a fold is best imo. However, calling isn't bad. But calling does become bad if you call to hit cards. With your big 4-handed stack you don't need to hit cards. Villain needs that luxury, so deffo bet the innocuous flop when he checks to you. Cos if you don't take the initiative it gets messy on the turn with David seemingly calling the shots and Goliath struggling with the answers. By not betting the flop you were almost certainly conceding this pot whatever the turn card.

isn't that on the assumption that oppo knows what to do?  and given the background, (and I did wander past the table a couple of times that night to investigate the head scratching) that isn't a safe assumption.
