Difference between Online & Live Tourney Play
«

Can someone please explain to me the difference between Online & Live Play.
I have a respectable record at the local casino, where i final table every 1in3 events played (average about 80 players).
However, when it comes to similar events online, i just cannot get near the final table.
I make a profit on small SNG's, but anything over 20 players gives me problems.
I would class myself as a tight player.
Thoughts are most welcome.
Thanks

Very interesting comment indeed. I have exactly the same issue, I make nice profits in live play but marginal online. I have started to wonder if online I call/bet with marginally weaker hands, and perhaps don't lay down hands that I would playing live due to the lack of embarrassment factor of calling and everyone seeing and knowing who I am.
I have wondered if I should write down what hands I would call a reraise with live and follow this online to help.
I would welcome comments from everyone on this.

Of course not.

in my first year playing live I finaled 9 from 27. and have never been a consistant winner online. I'm getting better but its because of learning to treat the two like completely different games. When I win online it's by grinding away at STTs passing all but premium hands til 4 or 5 handed, looking for one spot to double up and then going aggressive near the bubble when the others tighten up. I start to lose when I treat it like a real game of poker and try and make the moves I do in a live situation. I stll am not a great online player because I don't see an immediate cash return when I win. I get bored / surf the net / write emails / write articles / etc when I should be concentrating on the game. that doesn't happen live where I'm paying attention to every subtle clue I can to my opponents playing style and looking for an opportunity to exploit them.
