I know its not quite the premiership but as a charlton athletic fan i would like to offer my condolenses to Neil Warnock for this seasons refereeing blunder of the year.

so, so funny watching his rant about fair play and how they should've let them go down the pitch and score a goal

let us not forget that this is the same neil warnock who once ordered his sheffield united players to feign injury so that the match they were losing 3-0 was abandoned

the guy has no concept of fair play

was about to post the same, this was vs wst brom, they had 3 sent off for horrible misconduct and then warnock thought he'd get the game abandoned and replayed if they went down to 7 players. He's a right piece of work.

Warnock has previous, and I am no great fan

However in this instance I feel he has several correct points

a) Surely in this day and age it is not beyond technological wit to have sensors on either goalpost and one in the ball to avoid this sort of mistake?

b) All the Bristol C players knew it was a goal, irrespective of Warnock, the sporting thing to do would have been to concede one.

Megson's LCFC did against Forest in a different circumstance when a game was abandoned at half time losing 1-0 when a player collapsed. Replayed game, conceded a goal from the kick off to begin it at 1-0 down

They certainly have had this kind of technology in place for ice-hockey in the NHL for some time I believe, as there is a red light that comes on when the puck crosses the goal line.

You seriously would hope if a Leicester player knew the ball had crossed the line but ref didn't give it you'd want him to say something,i sure would

Imo technology should be brought in fully: offside/pens/accross the line decisions/reds and out else that they get wrong so often, but you only get 3 challengers in a game like tennis so it wouldn't really slow the game down that much and would stop the ridiculous appeals when the refs obv got it correct

Is this instance any worse that the Roy Carroll/manure affair, as any difference is purely marginal ?

the technology would apply to both instances, but in this case the ball hits the back of the net and rebounds back out (design of new goals leads to this I believe), so the Carroll instance (while obvious to us watching) wouldn't have been obvious to all bar Carroll himself

As to the Leicester players doing it, we did, at Forest, in the replayed game post abandonment. I didn't exactly like it, but the sportsmanship was refreshing

They certainly have had this kind of technology in place for ice-hockey in the NHL for some time I believe, as there is a red light that comes on when the puck crosses the goal line.

They have instant replays in the NHL no goal line technology.  The light is turned on by a man (goal judge) sat in a little box behind the goal.  If there's any doubt about the goal the referee checks with the officials 'upstairs.'     If the puck gets caught under a goalie and they can't see it properly it's no goal.

If the Prem don't want technology it wouldn't hurt just to put a man on a nice little stool behind the goal.

doubt we're going to see goal line technology tbh, uefa seem to be avoiding it like the plague and are trialling extra officials on the goalline in the europa league this season
