I stayed in Northampton on Wednesday night and played the Aspers tournament. Last time I was down Wednesday night was 'deep n steep' night. 25,000 chips and 15 minute blinds. This time it was a new experience for me. 8,000 stack, no blinds, just antes.
Made for a very interesting evening. Lots of multiway pots, lots of postflop play.

What's the general feeling about this format? How do we adapt to it? When do we start shoving etc?

so there is a dealer button for the order of play and that is it in terms of forcing the play? As the left of the dealer starts?

I like the idea of it, interesting dynamic- whats in the middle pre would stay roughly same but everyone is involved from the off. Effectively button becomes BB, in terms of stealing pot, but still has position afterwards

The dynamic change means that no one feels directly threatened by any increase in antes so would assume that barefaced aggression will pay dividends as people are more likely to give up.

Can you give a rough outline of the structure? As this makes a massive difference, as they have ante up structure on stars but have blinds set at 50/50 for the whole tourney and change the ante each level. Therefore it is 50 to limp no matter what the ante.

The strategy in the above format means that folding in unraised pots, is stupid as you are getting a million to 1 pre. I would isolate a lot and make you bets relative to the pot as well as your shoves.

8000 stack, 10 handed tables
20 minute levels
Started at 25, then from memory,  50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000...

If Zac sees this he may be able to post the exact structure, but I think that's close

They have these on stars. Its interesting poker. I tend to open for .5-1x pot and limp pretty wide in late position for the 5 in chips it is on stars. May be different in the fact that you have to limp for an ante, not just 5/25 chips, if you understand what i am saying. I still think limping j3o and shizzle is terrible despite the obscene price.

I also play shove/fold from anything 5x antes (*5x pot) and below.

They had an "ante up" tournament at Fox's on a Sunday, was pretty decent imo they just started one in maybury in Edinburgh but everyone hated it! I think they do blinds but they stay at 25/50 for the whole tournie and the ante's go up!

Fun evening, bit different

No limping, everyone posts an ante so unless there's a raise the Cinderella hands get to go to the ball.
