Poor Jessica Ennis has been denied a new personal best.

On a happier note, I've just set a new world record for the marathon by removing 26 of the miles and walking a rather brisk 385 yards to the paper shop.

I don't see how it can stand, she had less of a race to run.  Would have been embarrasing if she didn't break her record with less hurdles to jump?    As an aside, if you do something to Olympic standard and practice it day in day out, wouldn't having a missing hurdle look slightly odd to you?  There'd be larger gaps between them or a huge gap at some point, I'd have thought that someone would have noticed it.

Congrats Mere, any other records you're planning on breaking in the near future?

kelly sotherton tweeted something about it not feeling right and thinking there were only 9 hurdles. that's the only reason anyone knew what had happened

if they'd spaced them wrongly everyone would've noticed as their stride pattern would've been out but because they missed number 10 out it just left them with a longer run off which is much less likely to be noticed, it's just head down and sprint til you hit the line at that point

After carefully evaluating all the evidence, the fact that she can't count to ten does not relegate Jessica Ennis from the category of 'would'.

At least you know she cannot tell the difference between 9 jumps and 10.

I reckon that might increase your chances of a personal best.

They're going to have a thorough investigation to find out what happened.

Hope they don't spend too long on that...

The 100m hurdles and the men's equivalent (110m) both use 10 hurdles evenly spaced over the course.

It would appear that the men's markings must have been used for the women's event meaning that the 9 hurdles would have appeared correctly spaced out to the untrained eye.

I can't believe for a second that that's what happened

every single one of the girls would have noticed if the spacing between the hurdles was wrong, their stride pattern would've been completely wrong and they'd all be knocking hurdles down
