I'll tell u a story as a recreational player, this won't look good on me but at the time it was the right thing for me:

I was out of work and had been for a few months scraping by, I went to Newcastle for the football.

Me and my mate went and had been drinking since midday so we go to the casino he plays a bit of roulette I sit down at poker table with 40 quid.

I managed to spin up to 160 in about an hour, because at the time I couldn't really afford the weekend I text my mate to come over so I could leave and not seem like a hit and run.

So basically it paid for my weekend, I wouldn't do it today as I'm in a more fortunate position but you never know it could be someonea last bit of money. Although it shouldn't be like that but people will always take a shot if they need to and no one understands everyone's situation at the time

Online I don't really think it should be etiquette, bad for the game but people play with their money so can so as they wish.

Cliffs: yawn

Who cares, a lot of us including myself have done it. I don't play much these days but I remember sitting I a 2/5 game a couple of years back and within an hour I was about £1500 up, I was going on holiday the next week and that was basically my spending money for my whole trip sorted. Now I didn't get up and just leave, I stayed there for a bit longer just to pretend I wasn't hit and running, but there was no way in hell I was losing that money so I just locked up. In all honestly it would have been better for the table if I had just left as I was zero value at that point and the table would have been better off with another player.

Of course a good or bad player could hit and run, but most people would be less upset if it was a good player hit and running. But a bad player? How dare he hit and run us without losing all his cash to us first lol.

This is just one of things thats horrifically annoying in a live game.... but completely incidental in an online cash game.  Although if your online cash game is one with very small player pools, with only a few tables, it can be tilting to lose a fish just after he has doubled and run....

Is it not better long term if the players hit and run? Cant imagine people being happy if they go and lose all the time whereas if at times they win and leave they will think they are better than they are as they don't lose all the time.

Well actually you're slightly off there Woodsey.

I'd be more upset when a bad player hit n runs because that's when my hourly has decreased the most. I'm upset at the unfortunate and annoying situation but I'm not mad at the player.

If a reg regularly hit n runs I just think they're a tit.

Not really mate, my second post you quoted there was me being sarcastic.

I was taking the piss about this earlier in the thread as you can see above, I've had that spot many times a few years back when I wasn't the 'bad' player so I know the score and how I felt back then  Smiley

This. I don't care if it happens to me. I'm usually disappointed because IMO players that tend to hit and run are almost always weaker players, and them leaving means I expect to win less, or in some cases the game might break. But I certainly don't think of it as "That guy just doubled up then left with my money ffs!"
