not only a quality poker player but from reports I have had from people who know him personally a man of tremendous strength of character, a three time cancer survivor. One of my pals knows him very well and says if anyone can get this sorted its Jesse - good enough for me.

I think Ironside makes a very valid point about how successful this can be.

This is really the first I have heard of it, but has there been a lot of work carried out behind the scenes whose backing does Jesse have?

Will blonde poker be supporting this?  How many blondes are likely to sign up?

davey but for the average selfish joe what benifits will they get for forking out the $50 that another player wouldnt get if they didnt?

obvious the LTA and the PGA can stop non members playing in there events but the WPPA can turn round to joe bloggs and tell him they cant play in the £50 freezeout in the vic cause they are not a member or the $200 event on stars or even the wsop main event

what will the casinos gain from signing up to the wppa and what makes them think the casinos will listen as they will only ever represent a tiny percentage of the players while players are funding the wppa

Time will tell on that one Ironside. To say the casinos will never listen is a little defeatist.

The more members they have, the more chance they will do any good. That they are not for profit, nor are they affiliated with any profit making organisation is good enough for me.
I'll join, they have my support for the time being.

I would happily pay the $50 IF I knew exactly what the precise aims & aspirations of this organization were.

A similar effort two years ago was in fact intended to protect the Image Rights of the "big boys" who play in all the WPT's wtc, & who get frequent TV Coverage. It had no aspirations to introduce standard Rules for Poker, to structure Poker, or to look after the foot-soldiers. As such, it was of no interest to me.

If this new Body intends to do those things, I would support it, so long as it did not have "weighted" Voting in favour of the big names.

Those who have supported this initiative seem fine to me, but where is the representation from the lower-level players? When did Mr Hellmuth, or Mr Greenstein, or any of The Hendon Mob, (who are friends of mine & whose integrity I respect 100%) last play in a £10 buy-in comp in Sheffield, Southampton, Bradford, or, Heaven forbid, Scotland?

We must have an orgnisation that supports ALL poker players, & the whole of Poker. It's not just about WPT's & the headliners.

Jesse Jones is very well-respected. He has indeed overcome Cancer, & now speaks with the aid of a voice-box, but he was in good shape & heart the last time I saw him.

Their precise aims and aspirations are to represent the poker community with one voice.

They can't really be any more precise than that until things get going and they decide what that one voice is to say. It'll be the members who decide that. If they lay out a specific manifesto, the members views will be skewed towards that of the founders.

By all accounts they are big believers in democracy and votes will not be weighted unevenly.

I think they make it clear on their site that they're not just about the big boys. Getting the EPT, WSOP etc to recognize them will, however, give their voice clout. In turn this will help the "little people" greatly.

Anyone who wants and a poker governing body and a voice to affect change in this country should give this new initiative a look and strongly consider supporting it. It won't be much good in the UK unless we're in amongst it. Leaving things up to others, in my opinion, forfeits your right to complain.

This is a platform, if we get behind it, it could be the one we're looking for.
