On Monday, March 27 at 1pm EST Jesse Jones hosted an online press conference announcing the World Poker Association.

The World Poker Association (WPA) www.wpapoker.com looks to take its rightful place alongside internationally recognized sporting organizations like the NFL, MLB, FIFA and the PGA as the prevailing body of tournament poker. Join Jesse Jones, founder of the WPA during this online press conference as he discusses the launch of what will prove to be the most formidable organization in the world of tournament poker and how the WPA will elevate the sport to benefit the poker industry.

You are having a laugh aren't you Adam? It will cost in excess of $5 to process each membership application, let alone legal fees, website admin, office rental etc. etc..

If the body is to achieve anything it needs to be properly resourced. Resources cost money.

With P4C gold membership at £25 / annum we actually only make about £8 / Annum after postage costs etc.

I personally think $50 / annum is excellent value and I am signing up today!

I think it is a good idea although i think the description of poker as a 'sport' is laughable.

I know what you mean, it is something I struggle with, but I guess it depends what your defenition of 'sport' is. Always considered darts and snooker as 'games' but they are widely considered sports.

Someone once said that the difference between a game and a sport is that any activity that you can play at a professional level whilst wearing a wristwatch is a game, not a sport.

I think the main point of the guy who said it was that he didn't like golf...

Who is Jesse Jones?

I see online sites can sign up for a mere $100k.  Get the petty cash tin out TK.  Or is there enough in the bad beat tin?

How much influence, can this body have over casino's in the uk when the casino's don't/won't listen to players or staff? It is still the Gaming Commission that superseeds any other governing body as casino's have to listen to what they say to protect their licence. Can the WPA lobby the commission? If so I am definately signing up Cheesy

sorry not had chance to examine the site but why will players PAY to join a governing body if they can still play online and off without it

the only way i can see this workig is if the wsop, wpt, ept etc all sign up saying you can only play our events if you carry the card
and i cant see any way an online site would PAY to join
