The number of hands ive played in this game can be counted on 1 hand and having never really studied the game I have a quick question.

If you start with 3 to a low. Ie A23.
What % of the time will you make a low? I calculated something like 40-42%, however someone who knows the game better than me thinks its above 50%.

Anyone actually know?

I do not know the exact odds, but here is my theory

If you play with 3 others (ie 12 cards already out) and no one is showing a low card, then there are 40 cards left in the deck.

There are 20 cards (ie 4 5 6 7 or Cool that you need 2 of from your 4 remaining cards to come.

This would suggest to me that 50% sounds reasonable, but cannot be more - likely to be a little less as some of the cards will already be out.

Mind you, from what ive seen playing this game on the net - not many others have a clue how to play the game!!

Usually 8 players, i don't know the answer either but i'd guess more 40% than 50%

Right, I can see why someone told you it was over 50% for this reason :

Best possible odds :

Against 7 other players AND none of them have Ace to 8- ie 21 cards out. So 31 cards left

20 cards are 3 to 8 and you need 2 from 4 - giving you odds of way over 50%

Worse possible odds :

Against 7 other players AND ALL of them have Ace to 8- ie 21 cards out. So 31 cards left

3 cards are 3 to 8 and you need 2 from 4 - giving you odds of below 10%

35% would therefore seem an "average" chance of hitting the nut low

Not sure but isn't it more complicated than that...........from the 20 cards hitting 2 does not necessarily give you the low, you need to hit specific cards.
i.e. hitting 2x5's is no good so wouldn't that need to be factored in?

I started to work it out earlier but gave up pretty quickly Smiley
2 dimes has a calculator for stud hi/lo but it can't give specifics on the hand you draw to.
