When I was still married I bought SUE 1 for my then wife's birthday as a surprise. Her name? Felicity. Only joking. Sue.

It hadn't arrived in time for her birthday but i had received written confirmation from the agent and the dvla, so come the big day I said to her "I've ordered your present but it hasn't arrived yet"

I waited a while, it never arrived.

I forgot about it.

After a number of months she said to me "did my birthday present ever show up?"

"er, no" I said, embarrassed

I rang up the company, only to find out they don't send the plates through the post, you go to a Halfords or wherever and have them made up

Oh dear. I must thank my ex for mentioning this to our friends over dinner that weekend

Now for all you couples out there you may understand where I am coming from if I say the following "I know I haven't got a dress that goes with these shoes but I just had to have them!" and of course here in lay my true genius/stupidity. I do not have a car currently to put them on. It has to be relatively new ie 55 or later. It has to be in keeping with my new found eccentricity and of course relatively cheap. I look forward to your suggestions.

If you state a prize range id put some effort into finding a decent one.

But for now i'll just take the piss. If you wanna go the whole hog then it HAS to be a convertible you go for, examples such as mazda mx-5 or the honda S2000, trouble being they hold their price quite well so one year old (55 models) wont be that cheap. Plus if your on the larger side then this is a great car for mid life crisis men as they will look even more stupid struggling to get out of them.

P.S gonna go look for one for me now!

I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that people I know actually have personalised number plates.

Buying them cheap to flog to muppets for a song is fine, but to actually drive around in a car with them on?

But i wouldnt by one to say "Hey, look at me!", i would want one to hide the age of my car.

My car looks a lot newer than it actually is but the number plate lets it down!

Please on the larger size. I am the larger size................strangely I do already drive a Honda but because of the children it is an Accord. Now this number plate on an Accord somehow does not seem right and as I am currently in the process of changing employer I will probably have to wait to find out the new companies car policy before I will know the answer to the budget question............right now I'm thinking Hemi.........but more likely Mondeo.........or maybe Corsa with a load of stuffed characters shouting c'mon

Not only have them but let me tell you..............love them. This is purely an extravagance for me. No other reason. Bought it direct from DVLA so I have not got ripped off by a third party, just the government. There are times when I am quite happy to shout "look at me" as long as I am not taking myself too seriously. Finally it is paid for solely from poker profit. Anybody who is mad eough to play cards for money is surely crazy enough to pay homage to the fact by driving around in a car wearing a plate refering to such madness. Mind you up to 3 weeks ago I felt exactly like you

My ex has 83RN and 8PL - name Bernard Litman - never been stopped with them and all highly illegally spaced.
