I want to get a decent monitor for my laptop, mainly just for watching films as I don't play much poker anymore.

Don't really want to spend more than £100 but would like a widescreen 22". I have seen a few but are these likely to be not so good? As I said, don't play much poker so not too worried about being able to fit 100 tables with no overlap, just a good quality image.

My laptop is a three year old Sony Vaio so will it be able to run a bigger monitor?

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/Arianet+23%22+Full+HD+Widescreen+LCD+Monitor+-+Black+?productId=37241

Found this from another thread. Will I be able to just plug this straight into my laptop and get the full resolution from it?

So I bought the monitor and it's pretty decent but I cant get it into 1920x1080, max I can get is 1680x1050. Does this basically mean my laptop is a pish and can't handle the full res?
