Spoke to a couple of people about this and just wanted to get a check.

Shortly into day 2, opponent is a clearly local recreational player. Aside from his appearance his play seems pretty uninspired, he's opened a couple hands so far with quite large sizing and i saw him play one hand where he cr'd a turn with top 2 pair then quite unforgiveably considering the spot checked a blank river to his opponent who obv checked back his showdown value hand, so basically i've reckoned so far this guy will possibly be a poor player.

I've played like one hand, lost it and didn't showdown. I'm young though so aggressive stereotypes could play a factor here.

Eff stacks 42k, villain covers.
Blinds 600/1200/150

Folds to me in CO i open 2400 with two spades Two Clubs.  Villain calls in BB.

Flop

Villain checks. I bet 2.8k, villain thinks for a bit and raises to 8.5k. I think for a while then slide my stack over the line.

Thoughts?

Yeah agree i'd prefer to have a hand like this since it plays so much better when we're called. But considering the spot he was repping a very thin value range and likely had some pure bluffs, could possibly fold 8x - 33 hands if he had these, and if he got it in with a draw  two spades Two Clubs wouldn't be dead yet. Is this fine?

Nah its pretty bad. Massively unnecessary in a soft field especially, basically guessing with terrible equity if wrong. I actually prefer every other option to shoving sorry Sad

Check back flop?

Think this would be ok on a paired board because of extra outs a bare draw has.

Makes a lot of turns tricky though like off suit broadways etc. If we check back flop I think It's mandatory to bet/fold those turns and just give up on anything that makes a draw.

Since we expect anyone half competent to barrel lots of the turns were planning to bet fold, and raising those turns is more expensive than bet folding this board, I prefer bet folding the flop.

its really super simple, obv bet flop to get alll his air to fold, fold to this large c/r. Our equity in these tournaments is so good to potentially getting it in so thin.

Ive def made this play half a dozen times before and def understand ur thought process which whilst it isnt bad is wrong in this spot. Jaming j9dx, aqo etc all would be miles better.

yh, really don't get stubborn with underpairs on paired boards like dubai says when you get it wrong your equity is so bad. Even if you're very sure he's bluffing we just have the wrong hand to go to war with.

Agree, his bet-sizing here just seems like a flush draw (sure is folding), or something of that ilk. Wrong hand to do this with, try to get dealt big aces more in future.

Think jamming is pretty terrible. As Dubai said you're better off just jamming high cards then 22.

I would probably just flat tbh. These punters just raise silly hands like 66 on these boards then when you jam start putting you on fd and every other hand they can beat and talk themselves into calling. At least this way, there is a chance you have the best hand and I don't expect him to bluff the turn too much if you call the check raise, and there are a lot of turn/rivers that allow you to take him off the best hand.

Bet fold flop is correct for sure, no reason to check back flop as he fold a ridiculously high percentage of the time to a flop bet because he's such a bad player! The shove is just pure EGO and with the fields so soft in GUKPTs it makes it even worst! Also I bet you was running over the table picking up tons of dead chips, surely fold and continue to do this is the best solution!
