almost more tragic that two ten year olds have done this than the original story

Not exactly sure of the exact details of the original story, but the hoax nature of call would suggest why nothing was actioned. There are a number of monitoring systems in place to protect and aid the public, hence you do not hear of when 'things go wrong'. This story was much ado about nothing and a journalistic license creating a story.

I'm always eager to slag off journos, but I think you are wrong here.

The police and ambulance service called the press conference.

If they suspected a hoax, they wouldn't have called it, would they?

Yeah both 10 years old. How do they even think up such a plan. Could understand em saying there is a fire at such an address and putting the phone down but to keep it going for half an hour takes some bottle.

yeah 33 mins...wow.

A couple of mins, giggle and hang up you would have thought.

Girl needs a serious talking too and then signed up to RADA.

I would love to know how the police worked out that it was a hoax!

Sky News' North of England Correspondent Gerard Tubb said: "Two 10-year-old girls, presumably bored during the summer holiday in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, had made a 999 call using what police told me was a mobile phone without any signal.

"A phone in those circumstances if you make a 999 call will roam to another service provider and the number is not passed on.

"Interestingly, the police are telling me they are unlikely, not definitely not going to, but unlikely to prosecute those two 10-year-old girls, much more likely to have very strong words and perhaps deal with them in another way."
