 was expecting to read that the phone call had lasted 5 minutes not 33 minutes! Any reason for them to of waited so long before making the appeal?

I can only guess that the call's on a mobile. The fixed line telcos get in a world of hurt if they can't provide an address for a 999 call. If they didn't tag it using triangulated signals from different pasts in the call time they're knackered.

Am i missing something they know the mother's name is Stacey Hall, surely they can search a thousand databases? beyond a joke. Even with just the other details the girl gave they should be able to search all sorts of records, doctors/nurseries/census... d.o.b = 2009/2008, firstname = ellie, town = leeds, house no = 23, streetname contains court.
Yea call must be from a mobile otherwise it should ping straight up. I was under the impression that the mobile companies had to be able to pass on the details within a certain time frame these days?. Unless it is a payg unregged mobile. Madness.

Pretty sure the details given were wrong, hence drawing a blank on the search.
Wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be some kind of hoax - that kid can hold quite the conversation for a 3 year old.

Just gobsmacked that they don't have a way of tracking the number within 999's system. I looked it up on the net and found an S Hall in that part of Leeds, but the house number was 25 and no mention of an Ellie or anyone else at that address. Didn't bother to phone it in though because surely they've already contacted that person to enquire.

They do have Laxie - but it's not instantaneous & if it's a PAYG mobile it's a big ask. I haven't worked on mobile telcos but I reckon tracing the phone wouldn't be too onerous a job - as long as they got it to the right engineer in time - it's getting through fault desks etc that holds things up. For a fixed line the 999 operator can hit a button seizing the line and holding up the call allowing traces to be made. Doubt it's that easy with mobiles. |

Well, doesn't matter if it's the right address or not because the WY Police phone line is 'experiencing technical difficulty' and their website is down too so you can't even contact them atm. Sent them a quick tweet with the street name and number, but it's also been a couple of hours since they were last active on Twitter, so hopefully they've already figured it out.

Yeah both 10 years old. How do they even think up such a plan. Could understand em saying there is a fire at such an address and putting the phone down but to keep it going for half an hour takes some bottle.

Not exactly sure of the exact details of the original story, but the hoax nature of call would suggest why nothing was actioned. There are a number of monitoring systems in place to protect and aid the public, hence you do not hear of when 'things go wrong'. This story was much ado about nothing and a journalistic license creating a story. |
