I'm going tomorrow. Got a decent amount of info about the place from net and via the some people i have met out here in Perth. Thought it was worth sticking on here too.

Staying in Legian first few nights 20 mins from Kuta (which ive heard plenty about) Then might go to a place called Canggu based on a reccomendation of an absol siiiick place to stay. Will probs hire a Scootay for a bit. Meeting Claypole around the 10th ish and going Gilli Isles Smiley

Any advice please?
Places you liked/didn't like?
Things to do/not to do iyo etc?

Thanks Smiley

Went to Bali in '98, lovely place.  Stayed in Kuta which was the main place to be hanging around for tourists.  The little islands a bit further out are supposed to be great too.   Probably all changed since I was there.  We were there as the Indonesian currency collapsed, not a great time, lots of hassle from people grabbing you, trying to get money off you everywhere you go etc.  Was used to that in other places but in Bali it was unreal.   Did a trip in to the mountains which was nice, but we only stayed a week as it was quite hassely.   Think a lot of Aussies go there.  Can't really remember much else about it so am not much help, but I've been.

Don't go to Lovina, it's crap. Here's the beach to illustrate my point:

However, Do go to Ubud, a fantastic little town which gives a nice insight into Indonesian culture and you only need to walk 5 minutes out of town to see some lovely scenery. We went to an amazing street cafe there every day. This is one of my favourite pics I took here:

And the Gilis are just spectacular. Gili Air is so peaceful, won't be very busy and you can walk round the whole thing in 45 minutes. Decent sunsets too.

Hope this helps

Lucy just said the sunset at Tabahlot, where there is a temple in the sea is pretty incred - she's said if you stop earlier than the beach where all the tourists go there is a balla hotel and golf course where the view is as good however much more tranquil, less touristy.
