To be honest gas central heating is just totally taken for granted but what a luxury it is.

When we first bought our house it had those electric storage heaters with all the bricks in them. So during the night we heat all the bricks up and the following day we let the heat out. What a load of crap.

After about a year we had saved up enough to buy central heating. Well what a week that was. It was just the best feeling ever. As I said earlier, its just taken for granted now but now and again I remember the old days when I had a day off and my beloved was out working herself daft in a factory.

She would come home and I would be on the sofa with the baby fast asleep on me with the heating on full blast. Then turn the heating off and go down the pub for a log fire.

Happy days.

If you set your thermostat to say, 20 on a hot day, your heating won't come on at all.

Not joking at all.

This is like the day I discovered that the numbers on a toaster are not heat settings but a timer.

WHAT?!

What does the numbers equate to in terms of time its not minutes is it? If it is i feel like a right tard

Thanks for the responses, even I knew the dial on the toaster was a timer though!!!!

Tracing wires through walls sounds way out of my jurisdiction though!!! I'm likely to do damage trying to find 'em.  Someone suggested that I turn the thermostat on the boiler down to reduce the water temperature (rather than the one that checks the room temperature), so I'll give that a spin for a short term fix.

Is the thermostat one of those new-fanged wireless jobs?
Where is it situated?

The thermostat and timer are old gear, defo not wireless.  The controls on the boiler itself is one of them cog and switch things

Congrats on the house, best advise I can give you is, build relationships with local tradesmen if you already haven't.  This will save you so much time and money in the long run..

Brought my first house 14 years ago and was completely ripped off by tradesmen to begin with, a couple of months and a few pints later the prices went down by 20%..

Not sure on the boiler thing, I always call my brother out to do stuff like this for me...  Smiley
