Hard to get an accurate figure, The Guardian puts it at "between £8m & £20m", which is quite a gap, but whatever way you look at it, that's a lot of money.

"Did you want to pay by cash, or credit card, Mr M?"

Presumably, this guy is a happy chappie this morning.

I read somewhere that Mo Farah makes £250,000 per "exhibition event", & expects to earn £10 million in endorsements & sponsorship.

Jay Cutler (who?) is allegedly the highest paid NFL player - $17.5 million per YEAR, guaranteed for 5 years. I gather he is not very popular, but I've no idea why, or even if that is true.

Eli Manning has to manage on $15 million per year.

NBA?

There are no less than EIGHT players who earn more than $20 million per year, & 56 who earn more than $10 milion per year, if ESPN are to be believed.

The F1 boys don't do too bad, either.

. Fernando Alonso Ferrari €22m
= Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari €22m
=Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing €22m
4. Lewis Hamilton Mercedes €20m
5. Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes €16m
6. Nico Rosberg Mercedes €12m

Those were 2014 numbers, presumably MardyArse has had a pay rise since then.

Mind-boggling.

The top 6 best paid Premier League footballers all - allegedly - play for Man U or Man C.

A lot of water has passed under their respective bridges since this photo was taken.

Think the £8m to £20m comes from £8m was the first out of court settlement offer and was turned down the £20m was the figure of damages sought so fair to assume its between those two figures.  I am sure the settlement is piggybacked with a non disclosure clause so probably not going to be narrowed beyond those figures.

Ahh yes, gotcha, thank you.

Presumably McIllroy must have been bang to rights to have decided not to contest the case further. A case of failed brinkmanship, perhaps, but if he was looking £20million in the eye, & could talk it down to, say, £15 million, that's serious money saved.

The numbers just astound me.

I'm not jealous, & don't begrudge them a penny, but they are just eye-watering figures.

Equally as mind boggling is the stats on how many of them end up broke after retiring. Particularly in football and the NBA.

From all the stuff i read about it Rory had next to no chance in this case, the only thing was Horizon really didn't want it to go to court because a lot of damaging information would come out, some bad for Rory as well. I guess they bluffed as far as they could and saved a few mill.

Very few footballers have any control over their investments whilst they are playing.

Lost count of how many stories have come to light in recent years especially of investment cons for a better word were they have lost the lot or at least a fair proportion of the lot.
