I was wondering , is there a rule which says Hatton had to give up his other belt to fight at a higher weight?

Can you hold belts at more than one weight?

Isn't he taking a big gamble doing this.  If he doesn't win ( I hope he does win )  he will be left with nothing.

The WBA Welterweight belt is up for grabs on Saturday.

When PBF walks into the ring he has about 5 different green belts

I think rule is if you move up a weight to fight for another belt, you have to drop the current belt within 7 days. He has dropped the IBF, WBA belts at 140 and is now supposed to be fighting for the WBA at 147. Howver that still may not be sanctioned as his mandatory Urkal has made a case against him with Hattons ex promoter Warren. (SOUR GRAPES)

His fight against Collazo will probably be for the title, but Collazo is a paper champ anyway, so belt or no belt he just wants to win and make a name in USA.

I mean he's not recognised as a legit champ at 147 its more of a trinket belt, he won the belt from a controversial decision over Rivera. The belt is purely used as a bargaining chip for the purses as when the casual fan hears "champ" they pay more attention to the fight, and more PPVs sold etc. The real champ at 147 should be the winner of Baldomir/Gatti as Baldo won the main 3 the belts from Undisputed Judah, but couldn't afford the sanctioning fees so they let Judah keep them to fight PBF with. Bit of a farce.

However Gatti got destroyed against Floyd Mayweather so when he does win the linear belt from Baldo, (and he should) people will still think Mayweather is champ as he beat Judah and Gatti. Then theres Margarito who holds another belt who Floyd recently turned down a bout with for $8mill as he'd rather wait and fight Oscar.

Bit confusing I know  Cheesy

Why did PBF refuse 8mill? Surely that is the biggest purse for a Welterweight bout.

What is the biggest Boxing purse of all time?

Yea Pacquiao knocked out Erik Morales. Barrera didn't manage that.  My Sister sat next to Jim Watt on the return flight from the States after that fight. She said he talked about boxing the whole way home  Cheesy

Not sure about purses, but Oscar De La Hoya is the biggest PPV seller of all time. I think he got over $20 mill to fight Hopkins, may get more against Floyd. Oscar brings the money to table, Floyd will get less than Oscar.

Here is list from boxrec of top 7 Boxing PPV's sold.

1. Tyson-Holyfield II 1,990,000 buys
2. Tyson-Lewis 1,800,000 buys
3. Oscar De La Hoya v Felix Trinidad 1,400,000 buys
4. Oscar De La Hoya v Bernard Hopkins 1,000,000 buys
5. Oscar De La Hoya v Shane Mosley II 950,000 buys
6. Oscar De La Hoya v Fernando Vargas 935,000 buys
7. Oscar De La Hoya v Ricardo Mayorga 875,000 buys

You see Oscar is minted!!  Cheesy

What was the first fight you watched?     I remember Tyson against Buster Douglas on ScreenSport ( old satallite channel ) .  I was about 8 or 9 .
