After a weekend of reminiscing with friends and Monkeys I want to put my collection of dance music onto my PC and MP3 player.

Can anybody offer any advise on how I can connect a Tape Player to my PC - and how I can get my PC to record what I am in-putting?
Can this be done from vinyl as well?

If any body can help, or point me in the direction of a site or literature that might help me I would be most appreciative.

Last time a saw a tape player connected to a pc, it was a commodore 64?

Have you got a hi fi that can connect to your comp via a usb?

Some Kodak shops convert vids to dvd, don't know if they offer the audio deal though

Failing that how i coped was sitting in a very quiet room, and record via a mic to an mp3 device, the quality is not the same though.

Obviously I have a USB port on PC - but what would the connector be the other end ?
Stereo is modern - will check what out puts it has when I get home this evening.

I am guessing technics can be connected/even mixer ?

These are some very rare live recordings - believe me have searched for them in the past but with little joy so I am going to have to embrace the technology I guess.

I haven't used it, but my stereo has a usb port, therefore it should be able to connect to pc. Haven't got the faintest idea what to do then though?

you could connect the tape player to the microphone or line-in jacks on your PC and just record the music that way.
Depending on teh software you have available you could either record as a .wav file (which you'll need to convert to MP3 later) or straight to mp3.
Do each song at a time. The alternative would be to record each side of the tape into 1 big file and then break the big file down into each indivudual track later using audio editing software.

This techique will work just as well for vinyl, or indeed any audio source.

Chris

p.s you'll need to make sure that you are using a stereo line in or all your tracks will be converted to mono.

Yep and its all your fault you cheeky Monkey.

At least I know it is possible in principal - so a weekend of buying leads - downloading software awaits.

It's totally possible as i have seen a mate do it. I'll ask him later. It involved a couple of leads and some free to download software.

So far have managed to find;

Dreamscape 3, 4 14, 15 16 vs 17, 18 vs 19 and 20.
HelterSkelter x various titles x 6.
Hysteria 3 to 10.
Various Pleasuredomes.
Various Dance Paradise
Pure X x 3
Kinetic x 3 sets
World Dance x 2 inc NYE 95
AWOL final night at Paradise club boxing day 94?
and loads of copied self recoreded stuff.

Prodigy live at Glasto 93 (ish)
Prodigy live at Perception 90 (ish)

Look what you have done Monkey and I still have more hoarding places to check.

High on a hill with a bunch of ravers . . . . . . . .

Bolt, on Limewire try searching for Hype, Old Skool, Micky Finn but try all box's including genre.  Time of day makes big difference - 9pm till 2am seems to be prime time.
