Anyone had/have unusual pets?

I had a pet rat called Norm (after the guy from Cheers), he loved to be let out of his cage & explore round the flat, but he'd come to me when I called his name. He loved alcohol (I eventually got him his own little thimble to drink from) and ahem herbal cigarettes - my ex-girlfriend once found me fighting him over the last little lump in my stash - I'm pinching it between my forefinger and thumb, Norms hanging off it by the teeth - but not letting go  Cheesy . I never let him eat it though - but he'd sit on my shoulder so he could smell it when I breathed out.

I had a raven for a few months when I was a kid - but as it was about the time of Damien - the Omen, other kids got scared when he flew down to land on my shoulder. He got frightened off by a firework display, but a a few months later I was hillwalking and he flew down and landed on me - about 4 miles from my home in a valley with a good population of ravens, so I was glad he didn't follow me home.

My kids had a little brown hamster called Pepsi

We had a great big Bernese Mountain Dog too

I used to have the job of cleaning out the cage once a week, and would put the Hamster into a little green plastic ball which it would happily roll around in on the kitchen floor, usually chased by my kids and the dog. My idea was the trauma of this would shorten Pepsi's life expectancy dramatically, thus saving me this chore which my then wife resolutely refused to share

So here I am cleaning the hamster cage and and its just me and the dog, everyone else being out

Well sadly I failed to screw the lid onto the plastic ball tight enough and then next thing I knew I saw a little brown thing being chased across the shiny parquet floor by the dog, and then the dog coming back to its cushion with Pepsi in its mouth.

Cue trip to Pets at Home quick for one replacement brown hamster!

The kids never knew.

Not an unusual pet, but we had two budgies years ago. Tweet and Sarah. Tweet was a chap.

I think they had a bit of a domestic one night, as the next morning, Tweet had had one of his feet bitten off and was sat on the bottom of the cage looking exceptionally sorry for himself. Sarah was looking rather full and happily swinging on her perch.

Tweet knew his place freom that day on.

I've had a snake and a terapin, nothing else that could be classed as unusual.

I have a spider plant called Gerald. I got him when Nigel Benn beat Gerald Mcclellland( sp?) in about 93. I was a McClelland suporter and named my plant after him.  When I got him he was in a pot noddle container and was stil too small for that. Now he is in a massive pot which is his 9th home since I got him.  I am searching around for a big enough pot for his re-pot in July. He is a fine pet.

He has alot of kids and some even live as far away as Nebraska. He doesn't get to vist them as he finds it difficult to find any seats big enough for him on flights. We did search round for a cheap flight once, but it was just too upsetting as we knew he would be turned down. His youngest son ( Summer 2005 ) now works in a coffee shop in Nebraska.  His oldest son is called Lucutes and lives in Glasgow with one of my friends.

I used to have a chillean rose tarantula, she was a lovely pink colour.

also used to keep fish and bought what we thought was a little eel,
even the guy in the shop didn't know what it was,
6 months later it turns out to be an American bullfrog  Cheesy

He grew too big for his tank and we bought him a new one, which he hated, one day he jumped and knocked himself out on the lid of the tank and died the next day

Yup, we had two tortoises, too. Popeye & Olive.

Chickens & Pullits (?) too - but they were not pets - they were for eggs, & eating. Grandad Angell used to catch one at Christmas & wring it's neck, then I was given the horrendously difficult job of plucking the damn thing. Happy days. Not.
