on a previous thread i was sad enough to admit liking kids from fame, so to add a bit of masculinity back to my life i thought id start a roy of the rovers thread.
Who were your fave characters? I used to wait for my dad to coem home evry friday and he would have bought on the way home the latest edition. Those were the days!!
I loved Hot SHot Hamish and Mighty Mouse and the goalie - was a Rick Stewart and his father - cant remember what their story was. anyone help?
please remind me of other stories?
As for Roy himself - absolute legend!!!

I used to have Tiger & Scorcher delivered when I was a lad which, I think, was the comic featuring Roy before he went solo and launched his own magazine! I was devastated when Roy did this as sadly I wasn't allowed to have two comics each week
A very similar trauma to that I suffered when Robbie left Take That
Another story I remember was Nipper. Nipper Lawrence was a very young, very small pro footballer who "bit yer legs" !lol.
Another Melchester player I remember was big Duncan McKay....no nonsense Scottish centrehalf .....with lots hair and a head band !
Scarily I think I still have these comics in the roof!

I never bought a football comic, but one day we cleared someones cellar out and I found a big pile, was there a "Wizard of football" in it?

I used to love Mike's Mini Men. We always tried to set up our own Subbuteo leagues but they were never quite as good!
The boy who used to live next door to me in my childhood had a much older brother who had read Roy of The Rovers from Issue 1 and had collected the comics. By the mid-80s this mean that we had about 10 years worth of them to work through, which was awesome. The older issues where much better than the later day ones.
Happy days.

Just been clearing out the attic at my mums house and found a load of Tigers, Valiants and other comics from the 70s. Wonder if they are worth much?

Finally a decent thread after all this Big Brother and GWR Bollox.
My personal favourite strips were Millionaire Villa and the Safest Hands in Soccer.
Gordon Stewart was the nuts, if only QPR had a keeper as good as him...
If you look up Roy of the Rovers on wikipedia there are all sorts of great memory joggers...

if they are in decent condition then scour the net for specialist collectors BEFORE you try ebay and the like
Even 70s comics are now very collectable
