I once went to a tasting evening at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society - interesting night out.  Much like a wine tasting evening, they talk about how different tastes come about, how it's made, and then they show you how to taste and what to look out for.  They have their own 'bar' in London which is open to members only.

The bar serves whisky (obviously), coffee and water.  Nothing else.  All whiskys are cask strength as well, and they advise you to dilute with a small amount of distilled water. All the whiskys are not labelled - you just tell the barman what flavour you want and what price range you want, and he pours you a dram.  Very civilised place.

Having worked for a Scottish Bank for over 7 years now, I've had the chance to try a fair few out, and have a very nice vintage bottle of Talisker which I keep for special evenings.  That is the top of my list right now.

Would I be commiting a mortal sin if I drank whisky with Diet-Coke ?   scared

I am more of a Frijji milkshake drinker. Especially the limited edition cocktail version that blended banana and chocolate together . That was a strong one.

I did share a bottle of JD once with a friend when I was about 18 .  I lay on the couch thinking about my Will the following day as I thought my hangover was going to kill me.

I know where you're coming from there Sark - I had a similar few hours last time I went to Amsterdam

Had a Glenmorangie aged in Sherry cask once - bloody wonderfull stuff.

Never seen it again since - probably a good thing.

I think they had it half price in Asda not long back - really good stuff for £12 a bottle. That could have been the Port finished one though.

I started drinking whisky last year after sampling some in shop in Notts (Gauntleys, great place, highly recommended). I went in to get a nice bottle of bourbon to take to a party and they gave me a great recommendation.

Since then I've been trying as many as I can to try and find a favourite so this thread will be giving me more to try now. I blame you all in advance for my hangover  Cheesy

I used to loathe whisky but after I tried a sip or 50 of Chivas Regal I was amazed at the difference a bit of quality makes. I think you get what u pay for with whiskey. Anyone reccommend any others I should try ?
