Amusing or wrong?
«
on:

Playing in the casino the other day there was one lady at our table and as is true of many amateur women players (and many amateur male players) she was playing super tight, she made three pre flop raises and each was greeted by a huge cheer and everyones cards were hastily thrown to the muck. I have to say i laughed along because it seemed pretty funny to me but later the whole table was reprimanded by the card room manager as the woman had complained about our behaviour.
What do you think?

Don't really know to be honest. But in Super System DB mentions something similar where a player was ridiculed. His complaint was that it embarrassed the player so much that they decided not to return to that game. The big losers were the regular players of that game. They had lost a weaker player that could have provided them with easy money each week.

Doesnt this happen at all games where there's a ultra cautious player who sits there and waits for premium hands before acting? If she had any sense she'd have used her image to her advantage, rather than complaining to the manager.

I think it's amusing but it is a little mean I guess, depends on how sensitive she is - obviously very! The people in card rooms should be encouraging people to come down and play. If they feel intimidated for whatever reason they are unlikely to return.
I'd have laughed too

Perhaps because of her inexperience, she felt you were laughing at her and indulging in ridicule rather than a bit of light hearted table banter.
If an adjacent player had spoken to her saying something along the lines of....
"Don't worry, it's just that this bunch of fizzy fish never saw an Ace they didn't like."
Then she may have been made to feel more comfortable.

Well I agree with Silo, what u also gotta understand is that she could have gone along to the cardroom on her own, felt out of her depth to start with and then getting grief from testerone charged men who wanted to take the mickey
How would you have felt if it was your first live game? Put off live poker for life???
Me i'd have just told em to p*** off but i'm a strong person. Whereas she did the right
thing talking to the cardroom manager. She could still use the fact that shes a tight player even after the incident but if the incident wound up the players then she gets them on tilt
and get their chips with premium hands

Once a couple of people start theres a ripple effect and everyone joins in, even in a minimal capacity the combination of all these guys jeering may have been quite distressing for the girl.
If i'm honest though picturing the scene its hard to imagine that i wouldnt have been chuckling along a little bit.
Not at the womans discomfort but at the situation.
There was a dog running at catford one night called el hombre and it was a 1/7 shot.
nobody had a bet in the race but ive never heard such jeering from a crowd as el hombre came in last. It got battered at every corner when it was running all over the other dogs it just kept checking and getting crowded.
The crowd loved it!!!
I imagine it was hard for the trainer, owner and connections of the dog to hear and watch but i think this type derision purpertrated by a faceless crowd/mob is human nature, it makes people feel good not to be the one getting popped at and to feel part of something, sad really.

Stallyons have these most basic of primal instincts inherently embedded in their genes so as to retain there stature in the animal kingdom, i know this.
They struggle when it comes to mortgages and full houses though

I can see why this happens, but it is wrong. A very similar thing happened to my girlfriend - she was playing her first ever live casino game (which can be very stressful espec for a young lass) and a few of the guys starting making comments. I duly told them to shut the f*** up as it was obvious she was quite upset by it all.
I think it's fair enough if the person gives a bit of banter back and is comfortable with the environment. However she told me later that evening that she would've been put off it for quite a while if I hadn't stepped in. Not everyone is strong enough to confront things like this in an unfamiliar environment, which is probably why the lady spoke with the cardroom manager. As was rightly said, you really shouldn't be discouraging the weaker players in the game - that doesn't mean you need to help them through the evening, but whatever you do, don't put them off!!! There is no finer example of shooting yourself in the foot!!!

If it was the standard casino structure i.e. very little play, being tight is pretty well the only way to guarantee a win.
As far as your question goes, players should show consideration to new players, but if if someone is oversensitive (i.e. female) there's not much that can be done.

can only speak personally. I don't think I'm oversensitive, but there are situations in which you might be more sensitive than others. Walking into your first live game as a female in a very male dominated arena is VERY daunting at the best of times, and she was probably hoping that everyone would turn out to be friendly etc and she'd wonder what she'd been worrying about. If this had happened to me, I doubt I would play in a poker room again.
Let's forget gender for a minute. How many of you guys out there weren't a bit nervous and intimidated the first time you visited a card room? How would you have felt in that situation?

Teasing a tight player (Regardless of sex) is part and parcel of live poker IMO. In casinos I am seen as one and "suffer" regularly, but I just use it to pull of a few moves, moves the mouthy, loose players couldnt pull off because of their image. At my home game there is a player who plays the premium of premium hands and its a running joke that you need aces to call his raises, just so you can get a split pot.
As long as it is done with no malice I dont see the problem, female or not.
