OK, the blinds are 800/1600 and you are on BB with 84 off...4 players on the table (including SB) limp in and you check. the board comes 4 8 8...dream flop for your weak hand...8000 now in the pot and you have just over 3000 left

Do you check and hope that someone bets against you or push all-in and hope for a call

check and wait for a bet your already taking down an 8000 pot with only 3000 left so i wouldnt have worried too much about it.

Even if you push you'll get called by over cards that are priced in or a small pp

If you push others will probably put you on a 4 (they may expect you to slow down with an 8 ) so they will figure they are getting 1-3.75 on the pot and they have a 1-3 chance of hitting. You are likely to get called but it depends if 3000 is a large amount of your oppo's stack size. Else, you could check twice and push on the river.

This one is nice ans simple.
Check the flop hope someone bets. If so call.
Repeat as above on the turn.
Move all-in on the river.

thanks for the advice. i pushed all in and took the pot uncotested. my main concern was that someone might have had an 8 with better kicker (though i'm pretty sure now that they would have stayed with me) or someone with a higher pair (and was concerned that they would hit one of their cards to give them a better full house. pushed too early

Don't worry about someone having an 8, tough luck if they have.

This is one of those situations (very much like paying AA off when you have KK on 2Q9 flop, basically there is absolutely nothing you can do and as you are not in control of whether they have an 8 with a better kicker or if they have an overpair, then you need to completely disregard the thought. Put simply, i have hit the second best flop i ever could with one of the worst starting hands, i want everyone in the pot with me and maximise my win. If someone has a better 8 or higher pair that sets up, its immaterial, i will be all in on this flop, turn or river, no matter what.

Therefore, the action can be dictated by my opponents until the river, where i have to bet if noone has already put me all in.
