I went to Edinburgh today. It has been years since I was last there. I actually used to stay there when I was really young  I was immediately impressed by the place. There are so many things to see, probably too much for just one day.

The Castle is amazing. Arthur's Seat is spectacular. The whole Royal Mile is rich in architecture and history, whether it's  Parliament house, The Hub( Tolbooth Church), The Palace of Holyroodhouse or even the new Scottish Parliament building. I loved the views from the Royal Observatory on Calton Hill. It has panoramic views across the city ( very scary views as well because it is really high ). Jacobs Ladder ( think that's its name? ) is really tough on the old legs.

We were going to go to Greyfriar's Churchyard ( GreyFriar's Bobby ), but sadly we ran out of time.

I will definitely go back there again sometime soon. It really is fantastic. I had forgotten how special a place it is

If you have never been to this place.  Make a visit.  It is now on my wish list for places to stay ( Once I get that WSOP crown  Cheesy. The central city flat prices are massive)

I also wanted to look at the DH MTB trails on Arthur's seat but didn't have a chance today

Wierd city, even the junkies are up their own ass.  Cheesy

Arthur's seat is cool though, every city should have a big f*** off mountain in the middle of it.

"SIGH" you are making me home sick Sark.

Not been back for about 10 years now. No reason to as none of my immediate family live there anymore.

Edinburgh is indeed a beautiful city but it also has some of the most horrendous council estates in the UK. My sister moved out of there a few years ago after her then 14 yrs old daughter got beaten up by a middle ages couple for upsetting their daughter because they had argued.

It has as you say a very serious drug problem but any visitors going to Edinburgh obviously would not see any of the nasty side to city and yes I would highly recommend to anyone to visit as it truely is worth seeing.

Everything you need to know about Embra except what it's citizens are called.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh

I have no idea either though the ones I've met are usually Jambo's or HiBees

Oooh the banter!

Hibees are Hibernian supporters. (That other team)

Edinburgers sounds eerily tutonic, so I usually go with Edinbronians.

Use it with confidence, no-one will dare correct you.
