I am British.  Not European and not Scottish.  I will support Scotland against another UK side though.  This is just like supporting your favorite club team. My favorite club team is Scotland, but I am a Brit.

Interesting topic.  I always have struggled with this topic in the past through no fault of my own.

I was born in Liverpool, my parents were born in Cyprus.  Which of course makes me what?? I used to say English with Greek blood, or Greek scouser.  My parents say I'm Greek, I replied you came to this country, I am therefore English!  So I start school and because I didn't look English (and used to go to Cyprus over the summer holidays and return every September a shade off black) I used to get called all the names under the sun.

So I wanted more than anything to be English just to fit in and not get bullied at school.  As I got into secondary school the bullying stopped because I got hard, and It was an all girls school so somehow colour of skin wasn't as much of an issue.  So I woke up in the mornings and i was good little Greek girl.  I'd arrive at school and I was hard nut English girl wanna be.  Back at home, Greek again.  Very confusing for a teenager to say the least.

To top all this off, as i got into my late teens and started going to Cyprus with my mates,  I suddenly became a foreigner in Cyprus now!  All the "English Greeks" would go over for holidays and get called names that they were English and get back to England!  Unreal.  So I was a foreigner in England AND a foreigner in Cyprus!  It was at this point where I thought I couldn't give two hoots as to what categories people tried to put me in.  I am Maria, born in England from Cypriot parents with a very international attitude.
