In this age of MTV, VH1, Kerrang TV and the like...with downloading etc it has to my opinion had its day

but I do remember some classics.....

Dexys singing "Jackie Wilson Said" to a picture behind them of Jocky Wilson the darts player. Much abuse was thrown at the BBC for this howler but I believe Kevin Rowlands has since admitted to stictching the BBC up by asking for Jocky's pic in the background

John Peel drumming for The Faces

Michael Stipe refusing to lip synch and "singing" Orange Crush through a megaphone

and my most embarrassing one. 1981. I'm 14yo. I go to school on the Friday morning and say to my mates

"Did you see that new group on TOTP last night?"

"Yes" they said.

"I liked that lead singer, really pretty" I carried on.

They fell about.

The Group? Culture Club.

The Singer. Boy George.

Arrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

3 years and it will be back on our screens, TOTP was always a great vehicle for new bands to reach the masses, perhaps the internet has given more options to these new bands but surely a place remains for TOTP.

I pay my licence fees and I hope it stays on telly.

Longer in the tooth than a sabre-toothed tiger (TOTP, not Tighty!) - about time they stopped trying to revive/reformat it.

At least thats one less show that'll be playing the garbage that passes for chart music these days.

Farewell TOTP, you were good in your heyday but you hung around for too long.

They said on BBC that it had been losing viewers since the 1970's.  It has taken them long enough to cut it from the schedules.

I am not a huge Nirvana fan, but I remember Kurt Cobain's performance on the show.  That was amusing

So will we no longer see Pans People, Jimmy Savile, Dave Lee Travis & Tony Blackburn?

Thats disgraceful, & I will refuse to watch it as much in future.

Funny to hear that show was still running.

I remember being a kid and hearing SLADE bang out I wish it could be Christmas, On Christmas morning and of course I was shouting to the family “Be Quite”

see I was taping it with my brand new tape recorder I had got as a present. Happy Times

I think TOTP should have the chance to evolve, for too long  has the show pandered to an ever changing market, some of the presenters of recent years were terrible, I always enjoyed the mixed bag of viewing and music we got from TOTP in the 80's. It was worth it just to see more Jimmy Saville on the telly. Cool

IMHO I think TOTP should have a shake up, at times the producers in charge have made bad decisions that have haunted the show for years, I say give it a chance to to find its true target market, and stop aiming it in the wrong direction.

RIP TOTPs

One of the benefits of TOTP was that you got to see "Pop" Stars at there time - the the BBC could replay the clips 5 years later, when we knew if they were good or not, did they mime at the start or did they have it from the begining.

My question  - Did anyone get to be in the crowd and wave their hands out of time to the music?Huh? (not me - i never had the chance)
