AOL only support Netgear products. I have AOL and I use a Belkin router, because I believe Belkin products/service are better than Netgear. What this means is that I speak to Belkin when I have problems with my router, but if you have a Netgear router, AOL can diagnose the problem(s) too.

As long as it's an ADSL router, you'll be able to use any one that you want. Linksys IMO are the easiest to set up but stay clear from the WAG354G, it's having major issues. Also if you know little about what you are doing, avoid D-Link... they're a complete pain.

If they have good feedback, then yes.
If your PC/Laptop isn't Wireless Enabled, you'll need to buy a wireless card.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jim,
I bought a router last week, and set it up, would not work, i understand now I need a Lan card, however I do not have a pci slot on my desktop. Anyone know of a external pci slot I can connect via usb port.

We have 2 Toshiba wireless enabled lap tops and would like to run them both.
Can we run them both off the same AOL Gold account?

Dewi, are you sure about requiring a PCI slot? A PCI slot is an internal expansion slot that is white in colour, are you mistaking the abbreviations for a PCMIA slot? That is an expansion port designed for laptops.
I know of no such USB to PCI adapter being for sale anywhere.
If oyur Desktop has USB ports, why not get a USB network adapter, take the PCI one back to the shop and swap? I am assuming your setting up a WIRELESS router and network, so make sure you get a wireless USB dongle/adapter, of course if your going to use a wired connection, then get the USB network adapter.
Side note, if you are going wireless, what rating is the network? G or sometimes 54G is fast, but technically you will need a G/54G wireless adapter which will only achieve full speed when plugged into a USB2/HI-Speed USB port, basically any machine built in the last couple of years sholud have this newer faster USB. You can used older B/11B type wireless adapter on a G/54G but it is a pain.

Bainn,
you are quitr right, it is a pcmia slot. i have a router and the dongle, but was told by technical support that I required a lan card, these I presume go in the pcmia slot

Dewi, is it a laptop?
What dongle do you have?
Are you sure you haven't got a built in network port? Most PCs have had them for a while now...
