Would they have done it with 11 men?
Difficult to say, because they only lifted their game when they were down to ten men.

If they'd played the way they'd played with 10, when they actually had 11, they should have gone through.

I blame the manager. 100%

I have supported him previously, but bringing Owen and Rooney and trying to rely on them, was very poor management.

To be fair we didn't look like a world cup winning side until we went down to 10 men,and like nemesis said, a semi-final with a strike force of Crouch/Walcott we wouldn't have posed to much of a threat to Brazil/France.

So go out with a roar like we did proberbly saved another 90/120 mins of angst on wednesday.

  Sven has left the building.

lol Shearers comments after game. Saying he wouldnt blame Rooney for twatting Ronaldo when he gets back to Man Utd...had me in stitches.

They didnt hold back on laying down the smack on the manager taking the blame.

Ian Wright usually talks bollocks, but he is spot on with the manager. Sven is on £5million a year, and it is an absolute disgrace!

Everyone is raving about how good their keeper was at saving the penalties, but he was a least a yard off of his line for 4/5 penalties.

To be fair though, the whole side were playing like amateurs, what's with all the long balls that never get through. Regardless of Manager, they had no chance in hell of beating the top teams, Germany, Brazil, France or Italy. Infact they had quite an easy draw, first time they come up against a solid team like Portugal & they play pathetic.

Positives we can take from the World Cup:

Aaron Lennon
Owen Hargreaves (never thought I'd say that)
No more Sven

Negatives:

Everything else

I'm not sure why England didn't take more strikers.

I have no idea why Beckham is still picked.

I'm lost as to why Carragher changed which side he put his penalty.

I'm baffled as to how Ronaldo thinks he's going to survive next season in England. (see that wink after the Rooney red card?)

I'm absolutely baffled by Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

For a world class midfield we were pants 5 times. There is no excuse. Simple as that really.

I tried not    at the penalties but I couldn't help it.

Now for a few serious points:

Ronaldo is a twat, and I wouldn't blame Rooney or Neville for hitting him when they are back at OT.

Secondly, What I dont understand is this, and Shearer was spot onw hen he said, Svenn didn't fancy Walcott of Crouch - if he did he would have played them.  But why when Owen was unfit and Rooney struggling did he not have more cover??

If he didn't fancy Crouch or Walcott why pick them?

Hargreaves played really well, Beckham was piss poor and that should be his last England game.  England look far better when going foward with pace and power.  That was clear to see when Lennon came on.

Rooney.  What do you say what a stupid boy.  I reckon he may well have got away for the stamping incident because it looked more like a tangle but why did he feel the need to push Ronaldo?  He should have just got up and walked away.

For whats its worth England defended well, but Portugal in my opinion where poor going foward,  I don't think they will get past Brazil.

Love the Jocks giving the rub down ....  I cant believe people are biting, Just laugh them off and shrug your shoulders.

After all, Its not like we are getting stick from a country that can actually play the game.

Its like a 25 stone fat bloke shouting at an Olympic sprinter to run faster.
