tikay, how did dave smith get on?hes been playing quite a few of these bigger comps.
Hi Fran!
Dave is pretty big, he has 12k after just winning a remarkable Pot & busting matey boy.
The flop was
, & Mtey Boy (all-in, but not for much) had
, but, remarkably, Big Dave was holding......
.......!
Those case cards have a habit of popping out!
Big Dave's table includes Mick Fletcher, BudBear, & George Geary.

and Luke Smith makes short work of Nick Slade.
7-7 v T-J all-in preflop.
7 on the flop, but Slade has middle-pin draw. It doesn't arrive, and Luke fills up on the river.

Table 5 still has 4 players remaining, even though it was part of the first pool.
Rutter -- 3,500
Wernick -- 20,000
Cawley -- 4,500
Falconer -- 8,000

How the heck can it be right that you play day 1 shorthanded and then go to a full table format when the field thins out?
Presumably the players that reach day 2 have done so by being the best players shorthanded...why then remove that advantage?
I think the attraction of what is clearly an innovative comp is somewhat lessened.
complete madness surely/half arsed thinking surely?
Err,umm......thinks diplomtically......I don't really know!
I'd assumed it would play short-handed all the way, & the last 2 tables of 6 would play down to 2 tables of 3 before merging.
I guess innovative thinking is bound to cause a few teething problems.

You said earlier that each table winner advances to day 2...that's 16 people then (96/6)
How does it work tomorrow then? still shorthanded? how do the 16 survivors play it out? down to a final table of 6 presumably but I am intrigued as to how the 16 start out....
Well the answer is a bit of a shock actually.
I just spoke to the very nice CardRoom Manager, & he told me that the 14 players who return omorrow will play the rest of the comp out as a "normal comp"......! (So they will begin as 2 tables of 7, & end up as a 9 or 10 man Final Table).
Which has, I confess, taken me aback a little.
But that doesn't explain why there were two flights today

I had in mind 16 players returning tomorrow, playing on 3 tables randomly drawn with 6,5,5 players
top 2 on each table reach a six handed final table
table winners on the semi final table get more chips than the 3 runners up to give some incentive to the SF table HU battle
sorry to be undiplomatic (eek....) but a 9 handed final table seems very odd in the context of this event.

Hold up!
I reported my conversation with the Card Room Manaager to Mr Rbb, & he's had a blue fit - "it HAS to be short-handed" says our man, "I invented the comp, I should know".
I sent him to see Mr CardRoom Manager, & they are in earnest debate as we speak. Or type. Or read.
I have to say, of all the peeps on the staff at Bolton, the Cardoom Manager has been easily the most welcoming, helpful & friendly, & I do hope I have not got him in trouble.

I shall pass you over to Mr Rabb to tell you what's actually going to happen. This is HIM from here on in...
".....hi, Mr Raab here, though I don't blame the aged for the odd spelling mistake. The format of this comp is such that on day two it is no longer a shooutout format. The 16 players who return tomorrow will play on 3 randomly drawn tables - two with 5 and one with 6. It will take the format of a normal tournament, so when the first player is eliminated they will balance the tables if neccessary to make it three fives. When we get down to 12 players a table will be broken and there will be two tables of 6. Thereafter the tables will continue to be balanced until we get down to seven players left, whereupon all players will play on one table until the bubble boy is eliminated and then the final proper will commence..."

fantastic and extremely sensible!
My mind is at rest now and I can get off my high horse. It's painful for the horse when I am up top

There'd be pressure on you if you were a contestant on Blind Date and these three were on the other side.

John Byrne is OUT.
He was Ali Mallued.
Not really a bad beat though, just an outdraw.
Flop =
Ali =
Byrne =
Red Jack on the river.
Ali Mallu wins the hard way.
