It is clear that Sven picked the players first and then try to accommodate them in a system, whereas with Sir Alf Ramsey it was very much a case of the system came first and he selected players to fit into that system ie the controversial selection of Nobby Stiles.

So do we want Englands new manager, Steve McClaren to play a traditional 4-4-2 that most of our players play week-in week-out but a system that may lead to the dropping of certain "talented" players. Or do we select a system that is best designed for our key forward Rooney and base the team around him. Or do we just pick the best 11 and form a system that best suits them.

Whatever the decision we need a strong manager who isn't afraid to stand upto the players who all to often appear to be the ones in control.

With the exception of Spurs players most England players play or have played 4-5-1/4-3-3 (whatever you want to call it) at their clubs.

Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea all do/have.
