Mel, make sure you visit
a) the olympic stadium/olympic park....the views over the city are sensational (you may remember the backdrop when Greg Louganis was winning the diving comps in the 92 Olympics)
b) The Harbour area, and have a meal in the Hotel D'Arts.......if you get a result first!!!

My personal favourites are:
1. the gondela from the beach up to Montjuic, then wander up to the fort and see the whole of Barcelona set out below (near Olympic Park)
2. watch Barcelona PC at the Nou Camp (OK, more for the boys that one)
3. Dinner at Els Quartre Gats

My top tips for Barca:
Park Guell and Sagrada Famillia are unmissable for Gaudi's architecture.
Don't eat on 'Las Ramblas' - you'll get better food and cheaper on one of the side streets of the gothic quarter.
If you want to see the sights take the 'Bus Turistic' (you can get a leaflet in most hotels). Its a hop on/hop off open top bus service that takes in all the major sights (and plenty of minor ones too) and you get to bask in the sun whilst getting around. Its 17 euros for a one day ticket or 25 for two, definitely value.
If you do visit the Nou Camp, pay the extra couple of euros for the full stadium tour - worth it just to sit in the directors box.
Enjoy!

Nice one! My best tip for Barcelona is keep a firm grip on your purse!!! Thieving so and sos everywhere - even on the beach they'll try to nick your stuff by lying unreasonably close to you and grabbing your stuff when you're not looking.

Barcelona - a quite stunning city.
But avoid Las Ramblas at all costs. Dirty, tacky, and dangerous.
And dont try to get a taxi when you exit the Casino - NO CHANCE! Get a hotel within walking distance. The H10 is ideal.
