How nice the last footballing memory of the best player in the last 10 years - RUINED.

Well at least he wont be mentioned in the same breath with Maradona and Pele.

Awful - hope he does not cost his country the trophy.

Of course he will be remembered with Pele and Maradona.

Was Maradona remembered for the "hand of god" and years of cocaine abuse or his football? Zidane will always be one of the holy trinity.

Still a ridiculous headbutt though.

I always think its amazing that when Zidane has these moments of madness, he always seems to do it with a totally calm face - he may be boiling on the inside, but the exterior is a complete mask.

I wonder if he'd be any good at poker...

Maradona overcame so much to achieve all he did - the downs are remembered because they highlighted the glory so much more.

I just feel ZZ does not have the character to pull off that sort of status.  I just cant ever think I will sit around telling my kids in years to come about a wonderful player from the 90's called Zidane.  I can imagine telling a story about the biggest idiot in a world cup final ever though.

Agreed ridiculous incident.

Sorry but Maradona was a diver, a cheat, a blasphemor, a criminal and a druggie. The worst kind of role model. What exactly did he overcome? Being the highest paid player of his time is not exactly a life of suffering.

Zidane was more or less straight up, played hard, took it and gave it out. I very much doubt his reputation will be destroyed over one incident.

I know which one my kids will be hearing about.

Still a very sad end to thee man.

How old is he?   However old he is, he could probably go to any Scottish team and play for them for another 10 years  Cheesy.  He still looks good for a guy that is retiring.

i saw paul gascoign do an identical headbutt to the chest against aberdeen, while playing for rangers in the mid 90s, the ref saw it from  ten feet away and gave him a yellow card!! as you do!!

It looks like Materazzi gave him the old reach around and twist the nipple job a few secs before the butt.

Still  a crazy thing to do with the eyes of the world on you.

And on a side note I'm glad France didn't win, because their failure to win their group cost me a payout of £1125 from Bet365!

Zidane has always had that madness in him, such a shame.

Anyone else find it disappointing that the two teams at the end could not find it in themselves to shake hands or interact some way with the opposition.
